Daniel Castillo, Jr.

s I posted earlier, the 17-year-old Houston resident was shot to death Tuesday by a police SWAT team during a drug raid on his family's home. It's increasingly looking like yet another paramilitary drug raid gone horribly wrong.

The father of a 17-year-old killed by a police officer who was looking for drugs at his home said the shooting was unprovoked.

[...]

The elder Castillo said his son was awakened by the pleas of his 20-year-old sister, Ashley. When the younger Castillo turned toward Falks, he said, the officer shot him in the face.

"My son heard her say, 'Don't shoot.' He got up to see what was going on," the elder Castillo said.

The teen's sister was with her 1-year-old when Falks burst into the bedroom, the elder Castillo said.

Story about Castillo

"The Castillo family's federal lawsuit was settled in 2009. The terms of the settlement are bound by a confidentiality agreement. As of January, Falk was still with the Wharton Police Department."

A google search reveals many articles on this story. If it hasn't been posted here before, that is only because the many freepers in the Houston area who would have seen this in their local papers chose not to post it here. I would be surprised if someone didn't, but our search function is not the greatest, so who knows?

In any event, the fact that "you" have not heard of this raid doesn't mean it wasn't widely publicized 6 years ago, and then resulted in a civil lawsuit that was settled 4 years ago. It is a terrible story, one that is unfortunately on the increase in post-Constitutional America.

No doubt, they’re figuring out a defense for this, as well:

“Castillo’s 14-year-old brother was also arrested after demanding to see a search warrant. He was later released with no charges.”

Well, let’s hope that every outrage that us old timers have forgotten about doesn’t need to be posted again, unless there is a new development of some kind. We have enough new outrages to deal with without getting worked up over ones that are long over with.

Better to report the murder of a 17 year old and the unlawful arrest of a 14 year old late than never.

The next victim could be any Freeper here.

Government employees who boldly violate the constitution and the law should be exposed, no matter when their crimes were committed.

9/11 took place not six years ago but eleven and a half years ago.

Time to move on and get over it, eh?

You seem rather eager to downplay the murder of a minor and the arrest of a 14 year old who dared question government employees about the existence of a warrant.

The British attempted to seize firearms from the American patriots, prior to our independence.

I suppose we on Free Republic should forget about *that* as well.....

” Rise of the Warrior Cop: The Militarization of America’s Police Forces “

It’s disturbing that there are enough of these cases to fill a book.

9/11 took place not six years ago but eleven and a half years ago. Time to move on and get over it, eh?

I don't know, did the Wharton police go in hiding in the Texas brush and start plotting more terror acts against the citizens of the US? If so, then we should continue our focus on them, just like the 9/11 terrorists?

I will add this, when such police misconduct took place in 2007, it was a bad cop, or perhaps a bad local police department doing something stupid, for which the federal courts (as in the Castillo case) were available for redress. In 2008, the country elected a guy who wants to create a civilian army as well armed and powerful as the military, who cares not a whit for the Constitution or for individual rights, and who likes to use heavy handed tactics against his enemies. Police departments nationwide are becoming more and more fascistic, especially those in big cities controlled by democratic machines who support Obama's fascism. They are sending swat teams out on routine warrants, shooting dogs first thing, and breaking down doors in an apparent effort to cow the populace. That is a trend that has grown exponentially since January 2009. An incident in 2007 seems to me more a one-off, a tragedy, but not a trend, something to be reported like anything else stupid people do. Billions of bullets to all the federal agencies, refusal to prosecute Holders' people, use of government resources to create an atmosphere of fear, that is the trend. This story is not part of that. Just a tragedy from 6 years ago. Might as well ask why we haven't heard about Chelsea King.

I’m not downplaying anything. If this had happened recently, I am sure we would all be up in arms. I am noting that this was 6 years ago, and may very well have been the subject of a 250 post thread right on this very site—back then. Since it happened, the suit was filed, a settlement was reached, it was written about in a book, the kids who weren’t killed are grown up, and now there are new, even more disturbing incidents to talk about. You seem eager to downplay the Chelsea King murder.

The unlawful and unconstitutional intrusion of government employees is not a “tragedy” but an assault on liberty.

A miscarriage of a child is a tragedy.

A government employee executed home invasion is an assault on the constitutional liberties of the victims.

“We have enough new outrages to deal with without getting worked up over ones that are long over with.”

This is downplaying.

An outrage which was “resolved” by ruling (effectively) in favor of the government is not “long over”.

The arrest of a 14 year old for daring to ask about a warrant does NOT become unworthy of discussion simply because of the passage of time.

Since you were a member of FR at the time, and claim to have knowledge of this case back in 2007, why did you fail to bring this matter to the attention of other Freepers when it was “current news”, if you believe the murder of a 17 year old for the “crime” of attempting to defend his sister and her child and the arrest of a 14 year old for asking about warrants *are* worthy of discussion in the “proper time frame”?

The unlawful and unconstitutional intrusion of government employees is not a “tragedy” but an assault on liberty.

Yes, and that is why the family sued and won a settlement in federal court in 2009, 4 years ago, which must have been quite handsome. There was a confidentiality agreement, so we won't know how much. It was indeed an assault on the constitutional rights of the victims. You are right on all counts, except you still haven't explained why you are posting this now, 6 years later. Now, shall I scour the papers from 2007 and find more stories about government officials raping and pillaging the populace? We'll be here all day reading about old news, but we can catch up on 2013 later.

Oh, look! Clinton just prosecuted a soldier who wouldn't fight for the UN. Oh no, now he's burning up small children living with a cult! Shall I post it now and gin up some outrage, or what? Don't you care about an "assault on liberty"?
