Series star Andrew Lincoln told Rolling Stone that "27 people die" in what he described as a "crazy season finale," which makes it safe to say that the war everyone has been expecting will break out in a big way. And we fully expect to see some major characters among those 27 casualties -- after all, this is "The Walking Dead," where even top billing does not keep you safe.

All the women at the prison including the baby get killed, along with Hershel.
Rick is killed (this is left open, so he could show up again)
Andrea and Michelle get away together again along with Milton. The governor and most of the town die.
Daryl, Carl, and Glenn escape but are split up.
The nest season is about their efforts to survive and reunite (if they survive).
Walking Dead = As the World Turns + gratuitous gore.
I guess that does explain its popularity, in some weird way.
