You apparently have not watched any of TWD. I didn’t watch the first season. Then, I read numerous comments about it. I noticed the first season was up on Netflix, so I thought I would check it out.

For this series, it the characters and their interactions that make the show a hit. The zombies are just background.

Watch episode 1 from season 1. Then, you will have a better idea of the show and more credibility in your critiques.

Old guy.

He can't live forever.

Do you really know all their names?

I got hooked on Doctor Who a couple years back. Wacky sci-fi series about time traveling to new places every week in a phone booth. I've really only seen that done before in the Bill & Ted movies. But if we had a zillion other movies and TV shows available about wacky time traveling phone booths, I don't think another one on the market would excite me too much.

Yep, and neither of you answered the question "what does it do that HASN'T been done in every other zombie apocaylse film/TV series" (of which there are millions out there)

Let me try to answer that for the rest of us:

First of all, nobody here is obligated to answer your accusational and argumentative question.

Second, since you obviously aren't a fan of WD, what the hell are you doing here?

Thirdly, and last of all, if you don't like my answers then don't ask stupid questions.

Nobody asked you to drop by....and nobody likes a buttinsky........Sheesh!

If you want attention then take your pants off and walk down the street...........

but he wanted to see a long term story, see the characters change, who lives, who dies, who flakes, who learns

And the characters have changed, especially Rick. The episode where Rick, Michonne and Carl go on a car trip had one scene that just struck me. Well, two really.

First they pass by the hitchhiker and don't stop to help. Everyone in the car is just stonefaced, no emotion at all. I thought, wow, 1st Season Rick would have stopped to help this guy. Then, coming back, a bloody smear on the highway where he had been standing and his backpack lying there. They pass by, and then back up, grab the backpack, and keep on going.

This said a lot about how the characters had changed. Really, the coldness of those acts. So, now, in Season 3, we have a different story because the events have created different people than we started out with.

My hubby says that this program is like the alien invader movies from the 50's. They were about a fear of communism and what it represented. He thinks this show is hitting a chord with people by letting us live out our fears of total societal collapse.

Did I say anyone was obligated? Hmmm, funny I don't see to recall saying all WD fans were required to respond to my comments.

>> Second, since you obviously aren't a fan of WD, what the hell are you doing here? <<

Trying to figure out why the hell people worship this TV series. You are free to comment on a TV series I like, I can explain what makes the show stand out besides "it has good characters" are other such vague comments that could apply to any TV series.

>> Thirdly, and last of all, if you don't like my answers then don't ask stupid questions. <<

Ummm, I didn't reply to any of your posts except this one, buddy.

Thank you for putting, so succintly, what I was thinking. I just decided responding would only keep it going. I, too, often wonder why people who are not interested in the topic, click onto a thread and then get snarky with people. Just pass it by if you are not interested.

Did I say anyone was obligated?

Maybe it was just your accusational implied question......

Yep, and neither of you answered the question

Gee, wonder why........

Milton gets killed by the governor. Milton has been living on borrowed time for the last couple of shows. The governor doesn’t trust him any more.

Do you really know all their names?

I know most of them, although I had to look some of them up. Some of the characters are relatively new and minor (like Sasha), so we don't know much about them.

Yeah the character evolutions are amazing. Glenn turning from gen X pizza delivery guy to a real go to get things doner to a family man. Daryl and Merle learning how to be good people (great writing there on the reunion when Merle mentions the original plan was to steal from the encampment, shows their journey was much further than we’d thought). Those backpacker scenes were amazing, and you have to wonder how different it would have been if they hadn’t encountered the Governor, they really hadn’t dealt with bad people before then. Also would they have done things differently if he hadn’t been so loud, kind of showed he wasn’t the brightest survivor out there. Of course first season Rick wouldn’t have cared, he liked everybody.

I hope they don’t have a perpetual fight with the Gov. I hope they move on and introduce new plots. It got pretty boring looking for Sophia.

This is the first Zombie TV series that shows character development and a lot of visual slicing and dicing. It is true that there has been many movies with Zombie themes. However, I’m 55 and cannot think of another TV Series that was a Zombie Show.

Daryl and Merle learning how to be good people

I think Daryl's evolution was helped a lot by being separated from his brother Merle; and, being mentored by Rick. I think he finally felt like he was worth something. That someone like Rick would depend on him.

As for Merle. I hated this guy, then last week's episode just totally turned him around in my mind. So, at the end, he gets killed and turns and I'm like --- aw, Merle. Then I realize that I don't really like that character. Michael Rooker just shined in that episode. He got almost a whole episode for himself, and he didn't waste the opportunity.

There is nothing wrong with not having watched the show while at the same time, wondering why so many find it addictive. What better place to find out and what better way for us to talk about it, than questions such as yours.

However, for those who take a casual chat way to seriously, differing opinions are not tolerated regardless of having watched - or not watched - TWD

As for me, I enjoy exploiting small clues, thinking out of the box. To me, this series is like a mystery novel. Do the walkers retain any humanity? I think they do, there are clues. I enjoy recognizing what others may miss, may forget, the smallest incident can have the largest consequence, that sort of thing.
