I have a really nice crop of lettuce in the indoor garden and some peppers. I’ll be using some of that in the Easter Salad. Tomatoes are all used up though.

Well, danged if I know. We didn’t plant it. We discovered in on the extra lot we bought when we built our house. Not sure when it got started.

The flesh is orangish. The outside is kinda peachy looking color, with a little black and gets kinda blackish/purple as things go along but the orange/peach never goes away completely.

We got rain. My barrel is full again. The garden is soaked.

We also got high winds and hail, so I've got some damage to cope with, and an idiot left the big garage door open on the shop (me).

Cold frame and all contents came through without a hitch, and will be ready for dirtbound operations after Resurrection Day.

LOL! I actually do think we have some. We see a number of neighborhood catz hanging out in our back yard, but we just admire them from afar and never feed them!

Well, I kinda thought that too, but according to the guy who wrote a book on it, not so after the plants are well established. He says they just go after the bugs etc.LOL

I’ll take your word for it.

Alls well that ends well?? Well my grand daughter just walked in, so it’s time to get with the Easter break program. I’ll check in later.

“Do you know how to clean squirrel. IIRC they are pretty tasty fried, with some red-eye gravy.”

Remember I am really old. My father used to bring squirrels home and I don't know where he found them to shoot them - I don't remember shooting squirrels around our house anywhere.

He fried them and I surely ate them but don't remember how they tasted. Pretty sure we would have had gravy with them. But, the thing that I had real trouble with, was when he cracked the skull and ate the brains. When I heard that skull crack, I did not look as he ate.

He also went frog hunting and remember eating frog legs. Both my parents grew up on farms in Arkansas. They came to Texas to work in the east Texas oil field, and I was born in Texas. He made good money but we still ate squirrels and frog legs.

I suppose one guts the squirrel and peels off the skin. I would think dip in milk, then flour, and fry.

I had guineas until a neighbors dog attacked my flock last year. Boy, those birds are dumb. If a tree was between them, they would squawk like crazy. I never saw them lay eggs, and they were 4 years old.

Mention deer and I start flipping through recipes.

So do I, but they are so small due to overpopulation in our area. We view them as pests.

Only critters I have to worry about are vine borers and spider mites.

I haven't seen either for ages (knock on wood). I think the chickens take care of them and other bugs.

A little over a half inch. It hit about 3:30 this AM with lightning and thunder and hail and high winds. I still said "thank You, Jesus" as I watched it fall. We need it here, and with stuff going in the ground on Monday, it was very, very welcome.

I’ll go down to the thing that used to be a lake and take a picture. It’s 78ft below normal. On the north end, there is only a small creek running through it.

You lucky duck you got rain! Mr Ditter just got back from Stephenville and he said it rained up there. We didn't get a drop in Houston.

That's the reason for my gratitude to the creator. Lots of places in Texas are hurting.

There are 2 types of Persimmons, the pointed bottom Hachiya which can be very astringent tasting if not ripe and the Asian Fuyu flat shaped that can be eaten when firm. Pick the Hachiya late in the season and store it and place a few in a window sill to soften to eat and you can also freeze a few and thaw them one at a time to speedup the flavor, but this depends on how ripe they were when you picked them. They Fuyu have the texture of a crunch Pear.
