Twenty-year hiatus in rising temperatures has climate scientists puzzled
The Australian ^ | March 30, 2013 | Graham Lloyd

DEBATE about the reality of a two-decade pause in global warming and what it means has made its way from the sceptical fringe to the mainstream.

...

But the fact that global surface temperatures have not followed the expected global warming pattern is now widely accepted.

Why don’t these idiots see that it is the Sun? They are either stupid or lying corrupt phoney scientists who are better at conning people than observation and deduction.

Too many people out there who actually hope than human activity is causing climate calamities. To illustrate otherwise would ruin their day.

"The global temperature standstill shows that climate models are diverging from observations," says David Whitehouse of the Global Warming Policy Foundation.

"If we have not passed it already, we are on the threshold of global observations becoming incompatible with the consensus theory of climate change," he says.

The Potsdam Institut in Deutschland once made a study of olive oil ~ not exactly something Germans are all that anxious to use. However, somebody wanted it studied, so that was done ~

The conclusion was that the olive oil sold by Aldi's was "the least poisonous".

You need a doctorate from a major university to talk that way ~ so now we learn that observed temperatures are getting out of line with the models' predicted temperatures! And that violates the 'consensus' ~ LMAOROTF

I think you nailed it on the head.

The term Faustian is used three times in the article, a little heavy-handed IMO.

I found this interesting:

“Hansen argues that the impact of human carbon dioxide emissions has been masked by the sharp increase in coal use, primarily in China and India.”

Increased coal use is usually presented as increasing, not decreasing coal use. So the warmists should make up their minds. Does increased coal use warm the environment? Or cool the environment? China, India are waiting with bated breath to hear the answer. Also, Obama might want to stop his war on coal-fired powerplants if they actually combat global warming. Closing these powerplants will hurt the economy and might, according to Hansen, warm the environment.

In the mid 70s there was concern about global cooling. For an example, you can do a search on “The Cooling World” to find an article from Newsweek. (Also, a search on “James Hansen Global Cooling” turns up some hits.) There had been 30 years of cooling and the environmentalists/socialists demanded that the government take action.

They thought the cooling might have been due to particles emitted by mankind. Which brings us to the next paragraph:

“Increased particulate and nitrogen pollution has worked in the opposite direction of rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.”

The warmists have never, to my knowledge, addressed why global cooling ended, and why global warming began. Did we reduce our emissions of particles, thereby stopping cooling and starting warming? Perhaps government policy, advocated by environmentalists, caused global warming. Surely, that was not their intent, but that may be what happened.

It's like the medieval alchemists who would hang around various courts of Europe, trying to turn lead into gold. Sometimes their failures led to execution, sometimes they were able to skip town in time.

Today, fake scientists feed off government grants, turning cold weather data into proof of warmer weather. So far, no executions, and nobody has had to skip town.

I'm thinking the the medieval world recognized bad science faster than modern governments do.

At last, the junk scientists are being forced to test their computer models against the REALITY of observations.

BTW Whitehouse, the 1940’s showed the same observational pattern.

(PhysOrg.com) — Sunspot formation is triggered by a magnetic field, which scientists say is steadily declining. They predict that by 2016 there may be no remaining sunspots, and the sun may stay spotless for several decades. The last time the sunspots disappeared altogether was in the 17th and 18th century, and coincided with a lengthy cool period on the planet known as the Little Ice Age.

The warmists have never, to my knowledge, addressed why global cooling ended, and why global warming began.

They deny there ever was 'scientifically accepted' global cooling; therefore, they don't need to explain how/why it ended.

Their line of BS is that "most reputable" scientists in the field of the time quietly observed warming, while a very few scientists made "questionable and sensationalist" claims about cooling that "were never supported by reputable climate researchers"; but which were hyped in the popular press. Very Fenwickian bunch, they are.

Yes, but when sunspots and warming resume, the Global Average Temperature will rise 3C by 2525, allowing second floor balconies in Cleveland to reemerge from the ice.

“They deny there ever was ‘scientifically accepted’ global cooling; therefore, they don't need to explain how/why it ended.”

Yes. I've heard that before. “Global cooling was just hype.” So, global warming isn't?

It seems to me that use of the term “climate change” is very curious. We are told that global warming and climate change are really the same thing. Just different words for the same theory.

How often does that happen? What are the different words for the Pythagorean theorem? Or Newton's first law of motion?

Furthermore, global warming and climate change make different predictions (warming vs. increased variability.) The idea that global warming = climate change is absurd. It is amazing that so many people have fallen for it. I think we should point out the distinction whenever we can. Global warming and climate change are two distinct theories.

I think Climate Change is a tacit acknowledgement that Global Warming is bunk. The twenty year hiatus in warming did not go unnoticed. It is being managed by the warming/change bait and switch.

I suspect we will see several distinct phases in mass indoctrination:
a) global warming
b) global warming / climate change
c) climate change
d) climate change / global cooling
e) global cooling

We are (and will be) told that each phase is "really the same thing" as the preceding phase. Memory of earlier phases will be lost by the indoctrinated. But for those few who are informed and can think, the transitive people suggests that a) global warming "is really the same thing" as e) global cooling. That is absurd. This reasoning chain went wrong somewhere. The first mistake is the claim that global warming is the same thing as climate change.
