Cindy Brady on Her Gay Dad
By Luchina Fisher

As the latest star to speak out in favor of same-sex marriage, Susan Olsen, who played Cindy Brady on the iconic 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch, said that if her on-screen dad Robert Reed had been allowed to form a relationship with another man, he would have been the best husband ever.
In a heartfelt open letter posted on her Facebook fan page last week during the Supreme Courts hearing on gay marriage, Olsen wrote, As a child, I was BLESSED to have another father figure in my life. So I really can honestly say, My Dad was Gay.
I can also say that being gay killed him, she added.
Reed died in 1992 at age 59 from colon cancer, with HIV listed as a significant contributing factor to his death. Following his death, cast members, including Florence Henderson, who played his wife on the show, and Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady, acknowledged that he was a closeted homosexual.
Olsen wrote in last Wednesdays post that because his homosexuality was so taboo, he could never make peace with himself.
He never allowed himself to have a genuine love. He was forever taunted by his own disdain for the natural inclinations that he was BORN WITH, she wrote.

Being gay killed him. How wonderful.
Poor Reed got sick and died after being kissed by Rock Hudson.
“...colon cancer, with HIV listed as a significant contributing factor to his death...”
Too much “packing the fudge” and “hiding the salami” will do that.
It was just a little peck on the cheek...
Oh, good Lord.
The Brady Bunch was a fun show, the people on it were vermin.
Minor detail. Hardly worth mentioning.
I wouldn’t deny him the right to relationships and the happiness that brings, but marriage is a different matter.
Why would anybody listen to her?
I thought he died of Botulism, that he got from eating bad meat from a can.
Not a normal one in the bunch.
I remember an interview with Florence Henderson. She said the first time she kissed him on the sitcom, she knew he was gay. She said she went to Sherwood Schwartz and told him.
I didn’t really believe her as a stage kiss would seem to be pretty unemotional but I later saw where Schwartz confirmed that she had told him that.
‘Susan Olsen, who played Cindy Brady on the iconic 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch, said that if her on-screen dad Robert Reed had been allowed to form a relationship with another man, he would have been the best husband ever.’
BALDERDASH! If he would have been allowed to form a relationship with another man, he would have been a gay man in a homosexual relationship. In order to have been “the best husband ever” he would have to be MARRIED!
That woman is as insipid as the show she starred in!
Why, yes, Susan, he was your Dad. Of course he was. Now, take your pills and rest a while.
No one with a brain cares.
Yes, I did post to say that.
Why are FR people posting this bovine excrement stuff?
Showing us her monkey??!!
The evil religious right gave him AIDS and killed him.
100% in agreement.
