The official mascot for Westbrook High School is the Blue Blaze. But the school near Portland, Me., might want to think about switching to the Kitty Cats.

OK, that won't have rivals quaking under the Friday night lights, but the name would be appropriate. After all, Simba, a cat, has been roaming the halls of Westbrook for more than a dozen years. Now, in honor of his loyalty, the 15-year-old feline is set to be honored with an art show inspired by his cuddly nature.

I was a little bit rebellious. My first year of High School I showed up about 20 days.

When the next year started I heard about a school program called Cooperative Education where they helped place you in a job (send you to job interviews with businesses connected to the program) and then you when to school one week and work the next and so on.

I got a job at the library of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett law firm and ran into Cyrus Vance a dozen times. Doesn’t sound like fun but the people working there were super and made it fun. I actually enjoyed those few years. I would highly recommend that program to anyone.

At first the Cooperative Education Program didn’t want me because of my poor attendance record, but a really good guy at the school, Mr. Mann, pulled strings and got me in. I promised I wouldn’t let him down and had perfect attendance.

Lobster and New England Clam Chowder. My parents did a road trip to Maine before kids just for the seafood but gas was under 20. Gallon.

I would have loved high school if there was a kitty in it. closest I got was I was the cougar mascot for a semester.

Oh, kitty looks just like my beige, green-eyed, long legged Goldie...very alert, bright and quick to act. How I miss her.
