Jim Carlson, owner of the Last Place on Earth, was released from St. Louis County Jail about 4 p.m. Tuesday after posting $450,000 bail.

By 6:30, he had reopened the downtown Duluth store that had been closed since it was raided by police Friday afternoon. Carlson and his son, Joseph Gellerman, had been in custody since their arrests by Duluth police after officers conducted a search and said they found illegal synthetic drugs.

This is is the most bizarre thing. Every couple of months the cops make a big production of "raiding" this store, perp walking everyone in there out the door in handcuffs, and put the do not enter tape across the door.

Couple of days later the store opens again as if nothing happened.

I've lost track of how many times this has happened. 3? 4? times.

Key word: said. The owners are being harrassed. A $450,000 bail???  Carlson needs to get the message: Close his head shop.

IIRC, state law was changed, in part, because of this head shop and the synthetics they sell. The clientele have disrupted other businesses in the area and it’s a big eyesore.

True. It’s a stain. I am just bemused by the State’s inability to stop it. According to Carlson himself he’s making money hand over fist.

So is Riptide and Everest illegal or not? That one little fact determines if this is a justified raid or police harassment. Journalists are the least qualified people in the world to disseminate news.

They weren’t illegal synthetic drugs....

They were “undocumented” synthetic drugs.

Hansen said the federal conditions bar Carlson from having a firearm on his person or at the store.
