A sign posted outside a Collin County nail salon promoting it as "American Owned, American Staffed" is generating controversy.
The merchant defends her sign by saying it's a "patriotic business decision." But others believe it's focused more on what her Fairview business isnt: Asian owned and operated.
Ed Thayer said he was offended when he saw the sign in the window of the St. Tropez Nail Spa. He's a regular customer at a Vietnamese restaurant next door. He and his wife adopted four girls who are Vietnamese-Americans.
Thayer said he was so upset, he went into the salon to confront the owner.
"I said, 'This sign here implies that the other salons around here that are owned by Asian-Americans are less American than you,'" Thayer recalled.
A Nail Salon that is non-Asian? That is news.
"This sign here implies that the other salons around here that are owned by Asian-Americans are less American than you."
The obvious conclusion is that Ed Thayer is a racist
Please tell the offended to shove it up their smelly Obamas.
This is getting to the limit and sooner or later we have to make much better use of our middle fingers.
Politeness and civility be dammed.
American Owned, American Staffed, American Named! Way to go grrrrrl!
Another student that failed Logic 101.
NOTE to Mr. Thayer.....THIS is AMERICA where we live...if you don’t like it, you can go elsewhere!
Need to deport that UN hugging liberal America-hating Globalist
Isn’t it enough that all the tools they use, all the overhead lightbulbs, all the mirrors, the staff’s clothing have been made in China? Sheesh!
He's a regular customer at a Vietnamese restaurant next door. The restaurant says they are Vietnamese.
I’d rather stay at an American owned hotel too rather than some place owned by the Patel family from India.
I don’t recall there being among our Constitutional rights the right to not be offended! These people have an actual appropriate way to respond to this business owner and that is to not patronize her establishment, otherwise they need to just shut up! I’m fed up with Americans and others that insist we not be proud of or promote our own country because that might offend someone! My response to them is STFU!
I don’t see a problem here. The commie ‘RATS keep telling us that foreign nationals living in this country are “americans”. They refer to them as “americans” all of the time as in, “The majority of ‘americans’ are demanding “immigration reform”. Which “Americans” are they talking about? Americans don’t shive a git about “immigration reform”. They are already citizens of the U.S. The “americans” the ‘RATS are always talking about must be foreign nationals who are living in this country illegally (illegal aliens).
Shove your “offense” Ed, you limp-wristed pansy. Stop projecting racism where it doesn’t exist.
Ahem...Mr Thayer, you petulant little child, I am OFFENDED that you are offended....Therefore, following your own standards, YOU need to STFU!!
I remember in Arizona, the Mexicans would cross the border and drive up to Taco Bell for "American food".
Where can I post my list of what offends me?
It needs to be someplace where those doing the offending, are most apt to see it, so they’ll be shamed into changing....
oh...wait...no “shame” there....
At which time I would point him to the door with my .44 and tell him not to come back.
Shhhh. You might tip him off to the irony...
It seems to me Mr. Thayer is the only one with a race problem. If he considered his adopted children American there would be no need to put the word Vietnamese before American.
The simple truth is that you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a Vietnamese nail salon. They pop up overnight and go out of business twice as fast. They have a terrible reputation for uncleanliness and cheap nail products.
If you want a nasty nail infection, you can find one on every bloak for the cheap price of 25dolla.
Check the kitchen. There may be Mexicans on staff. < /truth >
****Id rather stay at an American owned hotel too rather than some place owned by the Patel family from India.****
What about a hotel owned by the sons and grandsons (all born in the USA) of the Patel family?
And why do they cough and spit on the ground everywhere? This ain’t ‘Nam.
That’s because Vietnamese and Mexican cuisines are closely related! Everybody knows that!
I remember an article in the TULSA WORLD or TRIBUNE about 42 years ago about the Patels taking over the hotel industry in Oklahoma.
The letters to the editor were interesting. Some were horrified that “foreigners” were moving in on the business, others where happy these “foreigners” chose to open businesses rather than go on WELFARE in the US.
Yet we can have “Mexican Chamber of Commerce” and every sort of foreign/ethnic outfits who cater ONLY to their own kind, and god help you if you’re offended about that!
Hypocrites. So much for the ‘tolerant liberal’...it doesn’t exist!
Someone needs to tell Eddie to STFU.
Sorry. But they USED to be Vietnamese. They are NOW Americans.

Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton will probably do that too:

Joe Bidens Racist Indian Comment - http://livingjersey.wordpress.com/2008/09/25/joe-bidens-racist-indian-comment/
The three of you and everyone else in America (still) have such freedoms, but probably not for long.
Check this out....Houston has a Vietnamese Business Directory HoustonVietnamese Business Directory Houston, Tx
But...THAT is okay!
What’s the problem? If the nearby salons are owned by American citizens they can certainly post a like sign, regardless of their ancestry.
He does say they are Asian-AMERICANS.
I bet his name is Ed Sayer and he only pronounces it ‘Thayer.’
She should have said to him, “What’s the difference between ‘American’ and someone who is ethnically Asian, who is a citizen of the United States?”
Since he probably has a whole bunch of defective neurons, then ask him what the “American race” is?
One more thing:
I wonder if Mr Thayer would be happy if the highly trained and certified beauticians of the salon showed him their Made in Vietnam underwear. I know I would.
And the owner should really go all the way American and replace that Austrian phrase “St. Tropez” in the name with something domestic like “East L.A.”
These days EVERYONE is offended about something or other.
I wonder what this thin-skinned generation of Americans would have done in response to Hitler and Tojo.... probably piss and moan all day and all night as Europe and Australia fell.
“I wonder what this thin-skinned generation of Americans would have done in response to Hitler and Tojo.... probably piss and moan all day and all night as Europe and Australia fell.”
Know what? Screw ‘em. We don’t need them. In 1776 only 17% of the population actively supported the revolution. Do you think we can muster that? And that’s why they want us disarmed.
Wilson got us involved in WWI. After that, the 500K casualties we took in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and so on, were inevitable. For over a century after independence, we stayed out of foreign wars - the Napoleonic, Crimean and Franco-Prussian conflicts were merely curiosities on the foreign news pages. But the lure (and ephemeral prestige) of foreign entanglements proved irresistible to the schemers in Washington, such that many large-scale 20th century wars became generators of obituaries in hometown papers. And that is how we ended up with Vietnamese-owned nail salons in the middle of Texas.
The problem with that is ....a lot of Patels who are US citizen can and do put out their own “American owned” signs. So now Americans would have to be more specific and say something like “White American owned”.....or “Whitey owned”. lol
All sounds much better and more dedicated when the ‘USA’ is meant. You can add ‘of America’ if you see It that way. However in today’s world especially considering Mexico and Central America I much prefer to limit my homeland specifically to USA. Picky I realize but much closer to my reality for being a citizen.
The funny thing is “American owned” stores sell Chinese junk and “American owned” gas stations sell Saudi oil.
It is news. My salon is Korean or Vietnamese or something like that, and although they do a great job on my manicures, I don’t understand a word they are saying.
I go to an American owned American nail salon. Everyone that works there is American and the owner is a full fledged right wing conservative American They all happen to be originally from Vietnam.
