Littleport Restaurateur Hoping to Introduce Zebra and Kangaroo to Mildenhall

THE owner of the popular Littleport Steakhouse is set to take her winning formula into new premises.

Australian Corrine Yendle opened her restaurant in Littleport in 2012, revamping the former Plough and Harrow pub and serving up a range of exotic meats including crocodile, kangaroo and zebra.

The restaurant has become a popular fixture locally and, little more than a year on, Corrine is looking to transform the fortunes of another pub, The White Hart, in Mildenhall’s High Street.

Together with Punch Taverns, which owns the property, Corrine has invested £150,000 in transforming the former pub into Cadillac Jack’s, an American Western-style restaurant and bar, creating 20 jobs.

A new menu has been created and will feature a variety of different steaks as well as exotic meats like zebra, kangaroo, wildebeest and water buffalo.

The bar is planning to stock a wider variety of drinks, including a range of cocktails.

Licensee Corrine, who previously owned two restaurants in Australia before moving to Littleport, said: “I took the opportunity to work with Punch as I could recognise the site’s potential and shared their vision of offering something completely different for the local community.

“Like, the Littleport Steakhouse, I wanted to come up with a concept that no one else had thought of and knowing how popular exotic meats had become in Australia, I was confident it would work in the UK and wanted to introduce this to Mildenhall.”

There used to be a restaurant here (Indianapolis) called Adam’s rib. They served all kinds of “wild” meat. Even lion!

The Skippy-lovers in Australia have for decades banned the commercial sale of ‘roo meat even though it would be a cheap & efficient use of an animal that is an even bigger pest than the non-native rabbits in Down Under.

Mildenhal has large US military population. RAF Mildenhal use to be the home of the UK version of the Paris Air Show. Not sure it still is. I stayed at the Bird in the Hand. They use to have really good fish and chips.
