Cocaine addicts could be cured using a technique that stimulates the brain with magnets.
Experiments on mice addicted to cocaine found they were weaned off the drug after laser beams were used to change neurons in a particular part of the brain.
Scientists who report their study in the journal Nature say a similar strategy using magnets could work on human drug abusers—and clinical trials should start soon to see if it works.
They showed by stimulating a region called the pre-frontal cortex with light they could wipe away addictive behavior in the lab animals—or conversely turn non-addicted rats into compulsive cocaine seekers. …

Sorry. It’s the memory of the high that brings them back, even when they can no longer get high. (The brain adapts by making more receptors. That’s why it requires more and more of a drug to get high. Then, the downside is that the new receptors create pain because there are too many.) This guy is trying to get one of those 10 million dollar government grants.
That and pharmaceutical grade cocaine.
Anyone who has ever put their head into the bore of a superconducting 1.5+ Tesla MRI magnet and pulled it out real fast knows that it also substitutes for a few shots of Tequila.
Hanging could cure them, too.

Homosexuality could probably be cured the same way.
Hanging could cure alcohol addiction. Is that your favored approach?
