The Curley Effect: Using Redistributive Politics to Shape a Left-Wing Electorate

n a famous 2002 article in the Journal of Law, Economics, & Organization, Harvard scholars Edward Glaeser and Andrei Shleifer named the so-called “Curley Effect” after its prototype, James Michael Curley, who served four (non-consecutive) terms as mayor of Boston between 1914 and 1950. This phenomenon, the authors explain, is the strategy of “increasing the relative size of one’s political base through distortionary, wealth-reducing policies.” Forbes magazine puts it this way: “A politician or a political party can achieve long-term dominance by tipping the balance of votes in their direction through the implementation of policies that strangle and stifle economic growth. Counterintuitively, making a city poorer leads to political success for the engineers of that impoverishment.”

America seems to reward no one more than a Democrat politician who cannot keep his promises. Into the vacuum created by "failed" policies comes the dark specter of cultural dysfunction, the consolidation of power in one party and eventually totalitarian rule.

Given how often this scenario plays itself out, it is hard to argue this is due to failed policy. It looks more intentional, which I would believe except for the fact that your average Democrat politician simply does not seem smart enough to figure this out.

All the worst cities economically consistently elect Democrat politicians.

So you can see the theory has been confirmed in that regard.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the Obama regime purchased the 2012 election with entitlements.

As long as the markets let the Dems issue 40 cents in Baraqqi/Bernanke/Geithner freebies for each dollar in taxes, they can maintain the charade.

Does the “Curley effect” have anything to do with Larry & Moe?

Documentation File on the harmful impact of the Counterculture of Obamanation on America.

Barry Soetoro, aka B. Hussein Obama, 5 days before the end of GWB’s Presidential term, told ‘The Gullible’ the following: “We are five days away from FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORMING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!”

Going on 5 years now, the best friends that Obama could have had to help him achieve his above stated dastardly goal were the RINO leaderships in the US House and Senate, AND THEY ARE STILL IN POWER!

IMHO, the Counterculture of Obamanation will continue to destroy America for as long as the US Congressional RINOs allow it to, and not one minute more!

It was later supersed by the "Shemp Effect."
