In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
mens rea (MENZ REE-uh) noun
Criminal intent.
Example sentence:
"She appealed against her conviction on the basis that she did not have the required mens rea, in that she was not aware she was carrying drugs."
--Minimum 10-Year Drug Term Reduced for 'Naive' Offender; Irish Times (Dublin); Jan 16, 2012.
Etymology:
From Latin mens rea (guilty mind). Earliest documented use: 1861.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

On Benghazi, Ms. Clinton said, “Not me—uh
No perjury, there isn’t mens rea”
Thought video’s the reason
So don’t call it treason
“I can’t remember” is her panacea

The real mens rea isn’t the McConnell tape, it was what Obama did to Mitt Romney. Imagine the tapes of those planning sessions. I, for one, am glad a Republican would bring up Judd’s past. She can’t even own a gun, why would we want her running the country? Isn’t Washington messed up enough already without adding another crazy into the mix?

That is very useful. It might as well say that on my doorbell. They sound the alarm as soon as someone gets near the stoop.
