Thank you for the liberal ad hominem argument. I never said my argument would fit on a bumper sticker. I also know how to spell "doofus".

I appreciate that. By illustration, what I am saying is this, only this, and exactly this: The messaging has to be better controlled.

Suppose there was a candidate whose slogan was:

“I support the Second Amendment and am Pro-Life, and I believe that Bigfoot should be able to visit his pals on the planet Flerbnon”.

OK, you read that and think “OK, 2A, check. Pro-Life, check. What is this Bigfoot stuff? What and where is the planet Flerbnon? Who would say such a thing? Am I supporting an idiot?”

It is an election. Because the author is an elected representative. Elections are affected in many cases by single statements that call into question the thinking of the stater. Todd Aiken. Mitt Romney and his 47%. It is grossly unfair that Repubs are held to an impossibly higher standard than the Joe Bidens of the world but this is the reality, these are facts. The messaging has to be better controlled. It is not sufficient to state ones’ positions, it also necessary to think very carefully about the effect on a listener’s thinking. This bumper sticker, clever to some, is to me a wide open invitation for the opposition to insist that the candidate wants babies to be armed. As such, it’s an open invitation for an opposition candidate to misstate the intent and to distract the candidate we who would like to elect a 2A and Pro-Life guy might support. And as such, I think it’s potentially counterproductive.

That’s all I am saying.

Sometimes literal interpretation is stupid, but the point is still salient.

TEXAS CONGRESSMAN’S NEW BUMPER STICKER IS GOING TO INFURIATE THE LEFT

From the comments:

Best bumper sticker that jabs the left – “Nuke gay whales for Jesus”. Hit’s all the leftie crybaby groups at once.

Congressman Stockman won election in 2012 with 71% of the vote. His Democrat opponent got 24% and a Libertarian got 4%.

You definitely have an attention disorder....don't think it's a surplus though. :)

The bumper sticker is a reason to own a gun AND paints the abortion picture, all at the same time!! It's brilliant and it's called SELF DEFENSE!!

...and you missed my point.

Doubtless you would have nixed the best bumper sticker of the sixties because it was an invalid chemical compound.

Uh huh. And that one worked, too, didn’t it?
