The Unraveling of Global Warming is Accelerating
watts Up With That? ^ | April 19, 2013 | Anthony Watts

Uh oh, somebody in Germany in a position to influence others in the Green movement has started thinking for himself, shrugging off suggestions from a climate scientist that “its all in his head”.

Pierre Gosselin reports about a story by lefty journalist Harald Martenstein of Die Zeit:

“I was ready to open my home to the Schröders as soon as they would no longer be able to take the 60°C heat in the shade. But instead it got colder and colder. At Uckermark in the wintertime it was -20°C for weeks.”

Martenstein also noticed that Britain had endured its coldest winter in 30 years, Florida got covered by icicles, and the cold seemed to be spreading everywhere. So he pleaded that people should emit more CO2 - so that he could stay warm.

His plea, however, prompted an invitation from a “scientist at a very nice climate institute“:

He showed me tables and graphs that clearly depicted it was getting warmer. He believed that I was just a victim of my own subjective imagination. Memory can fool you. One thinks that during childhood it was warm from May to September, but in reality its was warm only 3 days, and it is those 3 days that one remembers intensively. The tables from climate scientists, on the other hand, do not lie.”

Martenstein then recounts the past winter and how it seemed to him as being the longest and hardest he could remember, but telling himself that it was probably just his warped subjectivity acting up again. He writes:

But suddenly I read in the paper that a number of climate scientists had changed their minds. Now they were saying it is not going to get warmer, but colder, at least in Europe. Whatever happened to the tables I now ask myself.”

This kind of science would never fly in biology or physics, Martenstein writes. ”But with climate science it seems they are allowed to get away with everything.”

When talking global climate change, do not let the pesky facts get in the way of a good theory.

As where aware the Brits among other northern EU nations got hit pretty hard this winter. The kids once again know what snow looks and feels like.

Nothing wrong with talking about the weather. People have been doing it for years. The problem is when people start to take it all seriously.

Actually, if I understand correctly, that’s why they want to get away from the name “global warming”; it gives the impression that everything is heating up.

Apparently, the models for climate change that predict higher temperature generally imply more energy in the system, which makes for worse storms in both directions - both hotter summers and colder, more vicious winters - or so I’ve been told. As another person posted in another thread, weather is what’s happening right now while climate is the average over time; you can have anomalies, it’s the overall change that’s important. So you can’t just take one thing alone like an awesomely cold winter in Germany or the near-record heat of 2012’s US summer and say “look, climate change does/doesn’t happen!”

It’s not my topic of interest, honestly, but it sounds like they at least have a working model. I think that the flimsiest portion is not that change happens, but how big an effect humans are having on it. Climate changing? Yeah; I’d buy that, that seems well-supported. Human greenhouse gas emissions the primary reason? Not sold yet; still looking for other explanations.

Mind you, this whole thing isn’t helped by the anti-global-warming lobby making those idiotic “CO2: we call it life” ads.

The tables from climate scientists, on the other hand, do not lie.”

According to their own e-mail communications, the tables DID lie by repeatedly failing to include "inconvenient" readings.

"The Unraveling of Global Warming is Accelerating"

“The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.”

In Germany? That's 140 degrees Fahrenheit, or 35 degrees warmer than the all-time German record.

They changed the name from global warming to climate change for the simple reason that the planet is cooling and has been since 1998. There phony BS about "climate change" causing cooling as well as warming is just a way to try to make their case. You can't say that loading the atmosphere with CO2 makes it warmer sometimes but colder others and expect people to take you seriously. Except for idiotic trolls such as you, you sound like you have bought into their BS hook, line and sinker.

As for their computer model, it isn't working and has been proved to be a bunch of crap.

I can understand people not wanting to care about politics, but politics is interested in you. Interested, that is, in controlling you, whatever that pesky Constitution says. The trouble with accepting the "anthropogenic global warming” trope is the economic impact of the things proposed, and actually done, in the name of fixing the (supposed) problem. We are being significantly damaged by things like the requirement to use alcohol in our gasoline and subsidies for “alternative” (read, oppressively expensive) energy in general. We are not talking nickels and dimes here, we are talking about the kind of impact that American bombing of German oil supplies had on the German economy during WWII. It isn’t quite that bad yet, but they’re working on it.

If “AGW" is really, really “not your topic of interest,” you might actually not know about the hack which gave the world access to some computer programs and emails among the conspirators who are driving that scam. It’s called “Climategate,” and was a big deal on FreeRepublic - but (surprise, surprise!) not so much on the sheeplevision news. Here are a couple of links which will tell you what we’re talking about:
