GROOM LAKE - AREA 51 A-12 ARCHANGEL CIA PROJECT OXCART HOW THEY GOT HERE
Roadrunners Internationale ^ | Not Dated | Frank Murray

Posted on 04/28/2013 9:57:34 AM PDT by tje

This piece of the History of the Lockheed A-12 is dedicated to the memory of Dorsey G. Kammerer. Dorsey was a part of the Lockheed SkunkWorks from its inception. He was an "inside" man on the team that built the P-38 Lightning, the P-80 Shooting Star, the F-104 Starfighter, the U-2 Angel and the A-12 Archangel and the other versions, the YF-12 and the SR-71.

Dorsey that had the foresight to save the photos that help document this story. Dorsey's family found these gems and made them available for this story. This story has never really been told in much detail before. I have collected the pictures for display as an addendum to the text.

This re-do of the original "Challenge of Transporting the A-12s to Area 51" does not change the compass of the original, only expands on a good story, made even better.

Well, I’ve seen her (SR-71) up close and personal.

But what caught my eye was the P-38 .. because my dad moved us to CA from NY in order to work at General Dynamics - and help build parts for the P-38 and other aircraft.

The P-38 is an historic aricraft.

That bird has always been one of my favorites. And to think, built and flown in 1962-63. Just imagine what we have in the air now, fifty years later!

Awesome!! Never knew any of this existed — I thought that birds from the Skunk Works were just flown out of Burbank. This was hugely hi-tech for the 1960s. Thanks for posting this ... passing around to all my av buddies!

A great site. Thanks for posting. Bet those truckers had a tale to tell.

It’s my understanding that the real secret of Area 51 is that they have contaminated the ground so badly with all the exotic fuel spills that it would be an EPA-nightmare if the truth ever got out.

I have read some articles in the Las Vegas Review Journal of doctors who were treating some of the workers out there for “unknown maladies” raising Hell because the government wouldn’t tell them what chemicals their patients had been exposed to.
