Task force calls for routine HIV testing for all adults

An influential U.S. panel is calling for HIV screening for all Americans aged 15 to 65, regardless of whether they are considered to be at high risk, a change that may help lift some of the stigma associated with HIV testing.

The new guidelines from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), a government-backed panel of doctors and scientists, now align with longstanding recommendations by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing of all adults aged 15 to 65, regardless of their risk. …

Despite strides in reducing cases of HIV infection in the United States in the past three decades, as many as 50,000 Americans become infected with the virus each year. The CDC estimates that almost 1.2 million people in the United States are infected with HIV, yet 20 percent to 25 percent of them do not know it. …

I’m routinely tested for HIV due to the fact that I’m a blood donor.

So not for medical reasons but for social reasons, to remove stigma.

Yet another reason to abolish Obamacare.

This just stinks to high heavens. They want to test 1/4 of a BILLION people just to find the 10 or 20 thousand newly infected who don’t know they’re infected? I don’t know how you would do it but I’ll bet if you follow the money someone in or close to the Obama regime will make a lot of money from this.

No shit. Why should I need to be tested for a disease that mostly only IV drug users, and sodomites contract?

The contraction rate for normal heterosexual sex is about 0.

The “fact” that anyone sexually active is at risk for aids is pure garbage. Look at the statistics, HOMOSEXUALS AND IV DRUG USERS are basically the only people at risk of this disease. GO F URSELF anyone that thinks I have to get tested.

I don’t want any government official that’s been testing people for HIV all day long with any needles ANYWHERE near me.

Mistakes happen, and this will be a cesspool of uninfected being infected. Say no, if they say they have to, tell them you have to protect yourself with lethal force.

The elephant in the room here is that by an overwhelming margin, these cases are gay and bisexual men. I checked the CDC’s own numbers on this a while back. As of 2010, gay and bisexual men account for new cases of HIV - and syphilis - at a rate 47 times higher than straight men.

Now, I’m not saying it’s a bad idea to get yourself checked out if you’ve been sexually active in your life. Nor am I saying that straight men can’t get HIV. They can. I’m just saying the bulk of the problem is within a particular demographic, and it makes neither sense nor is it the government’s business to mandate universal screening for everyone. IMHO, anyway.

a change that may help lift some of the stigma associated with HIV testing.

If there's a stigma in testing, then there must be stigma in having HIV. Is the government going to infect everyone in order to remove the stigma?

It is the only way to be 'unbiased'.

Perhaps they could infect Sandra Fluke, and then she could pass it on to most of the guys (or girls) in college.

That would have been impossible, how would you have found all the gays to quarantine, also assume that homosexuality wasn’t as in your face then as it is now.

But I agree, if you could have done it. We wouldn’t have a problem with HIV.

There really is no reason that any heterosexual should be tested for HIV unless they are an IV drug user.

Yes, of course people that have sex with many strange partners are at risk of getting diseases, all sorts. What I’m saying is those types of people aren’t at high risk of getting HIV, unless they are engaging in sodomy. You can look at the statistics of HIV in the lesbian / hetero community and compare it to faggots.

Really gays are the problem, and why HIV continues to spread.

Horse manure. I have been faithful since HIV was recognized, have not used IV drugs, and have not received a transfusion. There is no way in the world I am going to waste my time and the insurance company’s money (meaning my money) on a meaningless test just to make some pervert or loser feel better about getting tested.

Worked in a lab for many years and Abbott was the only company I remember that had their test kits pulled because they were giving questionable results. Their products were off of the market for quite some time.

D-Day for Abbott

In Vivo, December 1999, Vol. 17, No. 11, p. 3-7
“January 10 is D-Day for Abbott Laboratories Inc. to pull 125 diagnostic tests off the market as part of its consent decree with the FDA (See “Abbott Gets into Hot Water, “ IN VIVO November 1999). The decree, which follows the FDA’s accusation that Abbott used shoddy manufacturing processes in its main US-based manufacturing plants, is unprecedented— and hurts far more than Abbott alone. “

If you ask me, this is a privacy issue. I have virtually ZERO chance of contracting AIDS, but I reserve the right to keep that fact to myself. Not even my doctor needs to know, unless I want to tell him.

Don't tell me this information won't be released to a federal database.
