Word For The Day, April 30, 2013
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
Br. bad-tempered or hostile; quick to take offense.
[195055; perhaps (ob)strep(erous) + -y1 , though o is unexplained ]
Anybody remember this one?
Dug deep for that one, didn’t ya? Mornin’
Just about every peaceful Islamist becomes a stroppy little cuss if you mention that their prophet Muhammad was a murderous pedophile.
Bright and stroppy morning to ya!
Isn’t a barber’s pole a stroppy thing too?
Yes, I did.
I can only figure that they were hoping for a trade for him to happen during the draft. Either that or they hate him.
And there is a possibility that the Jets are a really stupid organization.
Now you’re going to put the tiger in a stroppy mood.
I’m weaning myself off of narcotics this week, so I’m a little stroppy. I can’t believe the whole month of April is GONE.
Refresh my memory. Isn’t this building where the piece of one of the 911 air planes was found the same one that a court decided was NOT a part of the Trade Center “killing field” and therefore could not be declared off base as a future mosque location? Does this discovery change the argument.
Ever seen “Trainspotting”? I just re-watched it recently.
Relinquishing junk. Stage one, preparation. For this you will need one room which you will not leave. Soothing music. Tomato soup, ten tins of. Mushroom soup, eight tins of, for consumption cold. Ice cream, vanilla, one large tub of. Magnesia, milk of, one bottle. Paracetamol, mouthwash, vitamins. Mineral water, Lucozade, pornography. One mattress. One bucket for urine, one for feces and one for vomitus. One television and one bottle of Valium, which I’ve already procured from my mother, who is, in her own domestic and socially acceptable way also a drug addict. And now I’m ready. All I need is one final hit to soothe the pain while the Valium takes effect.
Well the Jets were up to 6 QB’s.
Starting QB Mark Sanchez had thrown a welcome party for newly drafted QB Gino Smith but it got intercepted and run back for a touchdown.
To be accurate, the Jets didn't draft Tebow. They acquired him from Denver via a trade.
oh, yeah, right. I am just disgusted with them after this....I will NEVER cheer for them again. Not my team to begin with, but I liked Tebow.
Obamacare: People are stroppy
Its implementation is choppy
As premiums soar
More and more folks abhor
This disaster; The whole thing is sloppy
OK, how about this one?
That was pretty dirty - but hopefully he will end up somewhere that needs/appreciates him
I was drinking coffee as I read that......well, you know what almost happened. ;^)
No - in 1985 I was a newlywed in West Texas....if I was listening to music it was country I guess because there are a lot of songs from around that time that I have never heard! lol
The Hooters were from Philly, but I guess that was before you were in PA.
The stands the surrounding the pitch are filled with stroppin' British lads...
hope you are feeling ok. I have had my own joint issues the past month! i had both hips replaced about 8 or so years ago. Three weeks back i had some horrific pain where i could not put any weight at all on my right leg. had no idea if it was sciatica, if my replaced hip was implicated or what. An xray of the hip showed it was ok, but i still was in incredible pain for weeks. Was going to the chiropractor, massage therapist and PT several times per week. The orthopod called in oral cortisone, it did nothing. Because my hip replacements were those that were recalled, it was still at issue. So the orthopod had me go in last week for an MRI of both hips. Let me tell you, after 40 min in the MRI machine when they said ok Mrs. XS, we finished your right hip we will now image the left i said HOLD UP! i need a break or something right now. So they asked if i wanted to come back later for the left. I thought that was a good idea, since the right was the problematic one and they finished that. NO ONE had told me that i was going to be in that machine for an hour and a half! there was no hint of that little tidbit. So anyway, bottom line, the hip replacements are fine and dandy. I still have no explanation of what the problem has been. I can stand and walk ok now except when i get up from sitting a long time, and when i get up in the AM. it almost feels like the hip joint isn’t fully up in where it needs to be until i put weight on it and get it back in position.
so in any event, i hope your recuperation is smooth and as painfree as possible.
Yes by about 15 years
Have you had any run ins with stroppy voodoo practitioners? ;-)
heck, i was considering acupuncture for pain relief!!
Acupuncture works great-I started getting it after I was injured the second time, and I still go when I’m creaking, and can scrape together the bucks for it-the guy I swear by is from China and has been in business for over 40 years...
I’ve got a bid to finish for my contractor compadre, and I’m going with him to take it to the customer-back later...
Good. But not better.
Ouch! I feel for you. The only thing that I cam imagine that is worse than a hip replacement would be an additional hip replacement.
Keep up your search for answers, and I pray for relief for you soon. Have you saught a second opinion?
And I hear you about the MRI.
actually, from what i understand, knee replacements are far worse to recuperate from than hips— more moving parts! I will see the orthopod next week, haven’t seen him yet, was just communicating via phone and now that we know from the MRI that the hip is intact, we can go from there.
Better for dancing.
I can’t argue with that.
Of course, by your criteria “Livin’ La Vita Loca” is a better song than “Stairway to Heaven.”
