PC Police Blast RGIII for "Tyranny" Tweet

Amid pressure to change the nickname of his team, Washington Redskins star quarterback Robert Griffin III has ignited a digital firestorm from the left by pushing back against the “tyranny of political correctness.”

In a Twitter message, he declared: “In a land of freedom we are held hostage by the tyranny of political correctness.”

The controversy arose as Washington, D.C., Council member David Grosso prepared to introduce a non-binding resolution calling on the city’s beloved team to change its “derogatory, racist name.”

Griffin followed his original tweet a short time later with a definition of tyranny, calling it a “condition imposed by some outside agency or force,” such as “living under the tyranny of the clock” or “political correctness.”

Twitter followers erupted:

“Loyalty to local racist named team fading … fading,” wrote Bryan Weaver.

Josh Wheeler said: “Tyranny? Do we share a common reality? Get real. RT.”

@lalndonmccool wrote, “God you make it so easy to hate you”

Said Aaron Nagler: “Oh shut up. RT.”

But Griffin also received considerable support: “As a Seahawks fan, I gained a lot of respect for @RGIII today,” said one in the conversation.

Continuing the provocative Twitter dialogue, Griffin added: “If we speak … we say it the wrong way If we do not speak we are cowards.”

He later concluded: “Hate is strong. But love is even stronger. Appreciate the support people. I’m out for the night.”

At Hot Air, blogger Allahpundit said: “I wonder what they’ll do if Hillary gets elected in 2016 and the big-government gravy train keeps on rolling. Frankly, it’s long past time that the ‘Washington Capitals’ became the ‘Washington Socialists.’

It’s funny when people get upset about the Redskins, but not the Ravens.

The raven is from the Crow family and is a black bird.

One of the derisive words for blacks is Crow. Guess they haven’t figured that out yet.

Not really relevant, just pointing out the stupidity of PC.
You can make almost anything offensive.

RGIII is another slave who escaped the plantation, and will be tracked down and dragged back by any means necessary.

RGIII can have any opinion, as long as it’s politically correct.

Are Native Americans really damaged by the name of a football team?

Nobody hates homosexuals. That’s the false charge they raise. This man can play football and do whatever he wants.

However, don’t expect people to applaud. Sodomy is still a disgusting thing and from a religious view, sinful.

I won’t inhibit anyone, but I won’t approve either as I wouldn’t for adultery, theft, or pedophilia, lying, gossip or any other ugly act.

When sports teams are named for groups of people it is because they are great warriors, such as Trojans, Raiders, Vikings, Seminoles, etc. Nobody names their teams for cowards. The Redskins were named that because American Indians have the reputation for being fierce warriors. Once again, the DC counsel betrays its ignorance.

(The exception that proves the rule is Ohio State naming itself after a nut.)

As a Cowboys fan, I learned to hate everything Redskin. However, in this case, I’ll make an exception. RG III has gained my respect. If this is true then he needs our support and respect. He’s standing up to the PC Nazis in the most PCM city on earth. His parents raised him right.

Oh, btw, screw renaming the Redskins. Leave them alone. Personally, I like the name.

As a Scandinavian, I’m not offended by the use of name Vikings. I’m sure that it was selected to honor their seamanship and political innovation. (/sarcasm).
