I’ve heard that as well, so this year I’ve grown a bunch of them from seed. We still get bugs, but maybe there would be more if we DIDN’T have Marigolds. They don’t smell pretty at all but they sure look pretty. Gives the garden some color.
It’s just Mother Nature showing the Global Warming crowd that it ain’t necessarily so.LOL
we have a live trap but getting the hubby to actually use it....the first time we used it we caught a magpie....

Well we don’t have bird seed per se. Just about a half acre of natural stuff. Lots of native plants that we allow to bloom and go to seed before we mow the grass.
We have blue bird boxes, wren boxes, a martin barn. The wrens we keep close to the black berry bushes because they are territorial, and eat spiders etc. not much interest in berries. So they drive off the birds that would eat the berries.
Dad liked the blue birds and Martins, so we put up houses for them, and he spent lots of time watching them.
I can’t find the right verbena to buy so I’m back to square one. I’ll check on the Marigolds, what is said about them.
I can’t recall exactly what I read, but I do remember the first year for my gardens I had topsy turvey tomatoes, and decided that marigolds was the best choice for what I planted in the top of that gizmo, and I think it was a deterrent for a tomato pest.
Maybe I’ll look it up tomorrow. I am going to go to bed. I am typing while under a sleep deficit and need to catch some zzz’s plus my get up and go just got up and went LOL.

Can you tell me the product I would ask for? I LOOOOOVE the idea of being a lazy gardener too! Are the covers expensive?

How fast does tobacco grow? I just put my tiny little month old sprouts in pots. This is the farthest I’ve gotten after 3 or 4 tries. No sign of asparagus yet. Wonder if they got too wet and cooked or rotted.

It’s so weird-like we swapped weather or something. In the SF Bay Area, it’s been 80-90 in the shade. Still too chilly at night though.
Ugh from cold and soggy Central Missouri. #1 Daughter Leah is home from the USMC for a couple weeks of pre-deployment leave. We had plans to go see some dirt track sprint car racing in Wheatland, MO tonight but Mother Nature put the kabosh on that.
I did make it to the nursery earlier this week to get tomato, pepper and eggplant. Got all of the 44 tomatoes re-potted. Had to put everything I bought in the barn to protect from the cold nighttime temps. The forecast is looking up so I’ll bring them all out tomorrow morning.
I’m in Chicago for tech training all of next week so won’t be able to get a doggone thing done until the weekend. Hopefully the weather will be nice while I’m gone and I’ll be able to get all of the stuff I bought into the dirt after I get home.
well today I planted 24 pepper plants into bigger pots, then into the small greenhouse we have...to be later planted when the weather is safe.....I’m trying jalapeno, Anaheim’s, and bell....my onions aren’t dead yet, leaf lettuce a little shocked from planting them outside in 5gal buckets, and my two zucchinis like a little shocked too...got two hanging flower baskets going...using red wave petunias and some dark blue lobelia..
In addition to repelling some undesirable insects, marigolds combat nematodes and the worm that likes to eat tomatoes.
