Where did my country go?
Where did our country go, indeed. You know, I keep in mind that I could possibly get some hostility in these areas I go to because I am from Massachusetts, and to be honest, I can’t blame people for feeling that way.
There are some conservatives up here, just like there used to be conservatives in Vermont. Now, Vermont seems to me even more liberal and left-wing than Massachusetts.
A few years back, my wife and I took a road trip up to St. Johnsbury in Vermont, and took the long way up. I drove past some old, faded, gray barns that had “Take back Vermont” painted in large, uneven white letters.
The thing was, they were so faded that it made me feel both old and sad to look at them.
That is how I kind of feel sometimes here in Massachusetts: like the people who painted those faded letters. Then I decide I am not going to give in just to feel comfortable, and I don’t feel so old and sad...:)
Just a wild guess, but I’d bet the Charleston, Knoxville & Johnson City, plus maybe the Evergreen Park, Duluth and Falls Church laws were pushed through by the local Audubon Society.
New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, & Rhode Island might be Audubon Society or maybe just fearful Democrats.
Well, at least my pea shooter can still be carried legally.
