SAN JACINTO (CBSLA.com) — Five family members were injured early Sunday morning after a car plowed into them while they were retrieving a fallen barbecue in Riverside County.

Deputies responded to the accident around 2:10 a.m. at Sanderson Avenue and Seventh Street.

The family was traveling in two vehicles north on Sanderson when a grill fell off one of them. One car stopped while the other one made a U-turn and pull alongside in the left-hand turn lane.

A few minutes later a motorist struck them as they were loading the grill back into one of the vehicles, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

One person suffered major injuries, while the other four suffered broken bones and cuts. All five were taken to different hospitals for treatment.

Sanderson Avenue was shut down in both directions while deputies investigated. It was reopened at 7:40 a.m.

Neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the crash.

Why do they always call them “motorists” in California? Everywhere else calls them drivers. Must be one of those “intellectual” things.

In Arizona, we take “road kill” home to barbecue it.

All five were taken to different hospitals for treatment.

I wonder why. Five hospitals in the area, with only one doctor on the late shift at each?

Last week my father-in-law had to brake hard and my 3.5 year old daughter told him: “You’re fired.”

Likely prep for Cinco de Mayo celebrations.

Used to like going to a remote beach north of Malibu for walks, until the local ethnic crowd discovered it and started doing cookouts there. No fire pits. Dis have condrete stairs from the highway down to the beach.

So we are there one afternoon, and here comes a large family/group, with several males carrying a full size bargeque grill down the steps. Not a Hibachi mind you, a full on Char-Broil or equivalent.

This along with Mamacitas and endless coolers full of food. They were getting set for some serious eating, so we left.

Never saw anyone carting around a home grill like that before for cooking out, first thing I thought of when I read the thread title.

Not sure -- then again, it might have been preparations for Cinco de Mayo.
