At one time, it was popular for people to reload their own ammunition. In fact, at one time in American History, it was necessary.
It seems like this might be a hot topic for some people so that they can get enough ammunition for target practice, etc.
Obviously, those people who do not have ammunition, it would not solve their problems.
But if one could buy the brass casings, the bullets, and the gunpowder -- they could make their own ammunition.
Is this popular right now? Could someone hundreds of brass casings and bullets along with gunpowder, and keep themselves in good steed in terms of a supply of ammunition?
Is this a way to defeat the government buyout of ammunition?
What is the basis for such an absurd statement?
Reloading equipment is going for exorbitant prices on Ebay. But in some cases, that is the only place you can find some of the equipment. Carbide dies are selling on EBAY for double the normal price. Bullets for reloading are non-existant in Oregon.
I restocked on reloading components beginning in January.
Bought new press & more dies. Also more shotshell components and dies.
Think I am in fair shape now.
Brass was the hard part and I do not shoot exotic calibers.
I have been able to get powder and primers OK.
Pray it is never needed, but am set up to reload most every gun I own.
And it can be cheap. With cast bullets I can reload 30-30 brass for 12-15 cents per round.
I bought a new 30 caliber bullet mold for my 30-30 (170 gr FP) that could in a pinch be shot in 308, 30-06 and some other 30 caliber cartridges. Evidently others have had that thought, it appears now that almost all the popular bullet molds are sold out at the on-line shooting suppliers.
I’ve been reloading a lot in the past week getting ready for a competition next month. But I stocked up a couple of years ago after the first obama scare.
The DHS was started to be the hub of information between the gov groups.
They did not do well in Boston.
Shut down the DHS now.
All of which is an indication of how high interest in reloading is.
Husband and son just spent about 500.00 on reloading supplies. There is a man that travels through Ohio and Michigan and he was in Michigan last weekend with all the supplies you need for reloading. People came from all over for one day event. It was at a big gun range, sportsmen club in Michigan.
Both husband and son have reloading machines they bought a few years ago when they saw the way things were going down hill fast with ‘gun” issue. Both have stocked up and will continue to stock up until it’s not possible anymore...
I have been having luck getting small pistol primers locally. I buy a brick ever time I see one in stock. Since the beginning of the year I have bought six bricks. The latest being two weeks ago. I haven't seen rifle primers in bulk since last year. I refuse to pay a premium for 100 primers at a time. Powder has been hit or miss. I am not seeing 8 lb containers for the powders that I use.
Jacketed bullets are very difficult to buy anywhere, especially in bulk. I have a local manufacturer for lead bullets. I have started running some of my handguns with lead. That works for practice and I just buy self defense ammo at the store. Which is also hit or miss.

This is totally crazy and it should make you want to slap the hell out of the idiots we have in Washington DC .
Georgia Arms is the 5th largest retailer of .223 Ammo in America . They sell 9mm, .45, .223 ammunition. They normally buy spent brass from the US Department of Defense. Spent brass is “one time used” shell cases used by our Military for training purposes. They buy the brass, recondition it, and then reload the brass for resale to Law Enforcement, Gun Clubs, Gun Shops, and stores like Wal-Mart. They normally buy 30,000 lbs of spent brass at a time.
This week the DoD wrote a letter to the owner of Georgia Arms and informed him that from now on the DoD will be destroying the spent brass, shredding it. It will no longer be available to the ammo makers, unless they buy it in a scrap shredded condition (which they have no use for). The shredded brass is now going to be sold by the DoD to China as scrap metal, after the DoD pays for it to be shredded. The DoD is selling the brass to China for less money than the ammo makers have been paying, plus the DoD has to pay to have the brass shredded and do the accounting paperwork.
This sure helps the economy now doesn’t it? Sell cheaper to China , and do not sell at all to a proven US business. Any hidden agenda working here? Obama going after the Firearms Industry and our ammunition!! The Georgia Arms owner even related a story that one of his competitors had already purchased a load of brass last week. The DoD contacted him this week and said they were sending someone over to make sure it was destroyed. Shell cases he had already bought! The brass has no value to the ammo maker if it is destroyed/shredded/melted. The ammo manufacturer only uses the empty brass cases to reload different calibers, mainly .223 bullets.
The owner of Georgia Arms says that he will have to lay off at least half of his 60 workers, within 2-3 months if the DoD will no longer sell spent brass cases to the industry. Georgia Arms has 2-3 months of inventory to use, by summer they’re out. If the Reloading Industry has to purchase new manufacture brass cases, then the cost of ammunition will double or even triple, plus Obama wants to add a 500% tax on each shell.

The Mexican Aguila brand is popular in the US. Warning: they load their cartridges pretty hot. Don't use them in an old gun. However, they're fine in modern guns in good condition.
Though not right now, I am a big advocate of a “Ronco Home Reloader”, because there are a lot of people who could be reloading, but are frightened away by the minimal number of workshop tools involved.
But if you put those tools inside a white plastic case, no problem, even at twice the price.
If it was from the internet, it was probably Powder Valley. I’ve bought from them, components are hit and miss.
A good reloading manual (or two or three) is critical to handloading, especially these days when your ‘go to’ powder and or component isn’t available. But always, always follow the manual’s recommendations on minimum and maximum loadings and component usage.
In the early 80s I was reading an Elmer Keith book he wrote right after WWII. He mentioned how all reloading supplies and much civilian ammo dried up because of the war effort, and people were out of luck. Elmer was able to keep on shooting from his stockpile, and he said you never know when another war or crisis will pop up, so keep your reloading room stocked up. I took that to heart and have never had problems during the various trying times. The other day I was loading some rifle ammo with a pound of powder marked $6.49, and I have cheaper stuff out there.
I reload 45 Colt and 45 ACP currently. Can reload 45 Colt for about 16 cents per round versus the 75 cents one would pay for factory ammo.

No primers, no powder, and impossible to get brass, new or used.
