Spire permanently installed on new WTC tower
cbsnews ^

Posted on 05/10/2013 7:22:06 AM PDT by JoeProBono

NEW YORK The silver spire topping New York City's One World Trade Center has been fully installed on the building's roof.

It brings the iconic structure to its full, symbolic height of 1,776 feet. The addition makes the structure the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the spire's installation was completed Friday morning. Construction workers applauded the milestone.

Pieces of the spire (which weighs 758 tons) were transported to the roof of the building last week, but weather delayed its installation.

The building's height is symbolic of the year 1776, when the U.S. declared its independence.

I'm really surprised that Benghazi Barry and his commie 'RATS allowed that American flag to be put on there. No telling how many foreign nationals were "offended".

Old Ben’s Mo-in-law had a better idea back in 2002. She proposed we rebuild the same WTC that the Muslims destroyed — but one story taller!

I assume that what they're attaching the piece on the crane to the middle structure means the middle structure is the spire attached to the building and it will be complete with this piece on it. The piece with the flag on it.

It looks to me like the main part has decks every so many feet. Are they going to allows those as observation decks or are they for people to work on equipment installed there??

OMG! It looks like a minaret.

Or am I wrong?

It’s not a minaret. To paraphrase Freud, sometimes a spire is just a spire.

Yes, it does. I have no love or empathy for this building.

To me it represents a decade of victim carping, maneuvering, ‘inclusion’ and politicization that makes its worth to me moot.

I see it and it means nothing.

Nah. Minarets are fairly straight with a cupola on top.

I believe a HUGE hue and cry would go up if more people thought that, given the reason we’re building it in the first place.

Back when we were still a great country this building would ahve been opened and occupied for 10 years already...

I’m having a hard time getting excited about a “spire” that adds enough height to the building to be “significant”, since no one dared to create usable space in a building so high again because it wouldn’t be insurable due to a history of terrorist attacks.

They lowered the profile of the building while selling us on the significance of a symbolic height.

Keep Omar & Achmed guessing as to whether or not it’s a minaret and maybe they’ll leave it alone this time.

Shrewd thinking if that’s what it is.

Dunno, to me it resembles the steeple of a nearby Lutheran church.

Watch out for pilgrims from Minnesota.

Also consider the similarity of the

'reflecting pools' placed at ground zero

which resemble a

reflection of the kabbah in Mecca

symbolically quenching it's blood-thirst w/reflections of neighboring towers while swallowing pools of tears from infidels mourning the names of their dead engraved on the perimeter of each pool .

Revolting.

Yeah, they must be building around the hoisted structure as the drawings look entirely different.
