Just guessing, but maybe a suicide, yet wanted his family to take some “comfort” in the thought it might have been an accident.

Sad story soon to be repeated by Obama voters (well, those who actually work for a living) as Obamacare train bears down on them.
At least Mr. Street didn’t take with him those who didn’t have their ears plugged.
That may have been why he turned around. It probably would have been better for him if he hadn’t. He could have had an instant demise rather than preceding it with a brief moment of terror.

It sounds like he did feel the ground shaking probably 1-2 seconds before impact. I get the feeling that an altered state figured into the mix. Maybe alcohol or drugs but that's just a SWAG.
That was so bad.

Hard to believe he didn’t hear a blowing train horn as it approached in enough time to get off the track. It did say he turned before he was hit but damn I just don’t understand how he didn’t hear it further out as loud as those horns are.
Your comment is valid, however I wonder if the fellow was also under the influence of booze or drugs?
Obviously earbuds must be outlawed.
I constantly wear earphones since I listen to audiobooks whenever I am not at work or home (read: in the car) but I do wear them when I walk for exercise.
That said, I assume full responsibility for my well being, and stay tuned into my environment visually, and never move to change direction or walk across a road without swiveling my head and looking.
Not everyone is as careful as I am, though.
Walking down train tracks wearing ear buds is akin to walking through woods full of grizzly bears with salmon steaks around your neck.
