Lost in space: 'Star Trek' movie review (1 1/2 stars)
NY Post ^

Posted on 05/14/2013 6:48:35 AM PDT by Perdogg

Why would a Starfleet admiral ask a 300-year-old frozen man for help?’’ asks Captain Kirk in his latest adventure — and, after sitting through two-plus hours of the mind-numbing “Star Trek Into Darkness,’’ damned if I could tell you why.

“and this English actor is in fact, reprising a role made famous by the fella who hawked cars that had rich Corinthian leather.”

It’s true. In fact since this is a alternate reality story (because the old original series Spock we knew in the last movie accidently caused the timeline to change trying to save Romulus) the Botany Bay was intercepted by Starfleet at a earlier time than when Kirk intercepted them in ‘Space Seed’. Also from almost every other review, this movie is getting a 4 out of 5 stars.

It was a while ago.....

I may have confused Mitchell with Trelane.
This was the book i believe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q-Squared

It appears that Trelane was a Q and our “Q” was tasked to mentor him......or whatever.
:)

whoops...
Just realized that Q-Squared is a non-canon Star Trek novel.

Apparently that ‘alternate reality’ extended back to the 20th century in changing him from a Spaniard Sikh to an English Sikh. I don’t expect this film to earn more than the 1 star (since I can’t give it a zero) that the prior abomination got from moi.

Tell me about it, I went and saw it in the theater and people were actually laughing, one guy calling out “Where is Neo?” lol Something strange about Leo DiCaprio, I don’t know if this guy is blowing movie reviewers or what, but every piece of crap movie he puts out seems to generate these over the top movie reviews praising him. Shutter Island, J Edgar, Inception, all praised as the greatest movies since the history of mankind and I go see them and they are just utter crap, usually with DiCaprio completely and utterly miscast. Read this crap, what is up with this guy?

Gangs of New York was the absolute worst. I could not believe how much Scorcese screwed up that movie, because the book is one of my favorites. The book was mind blowing, and I go see this movie and it was like this Disney ride with automatons, just utter crap. Even the sets looked like something from Disneyland.

I have a bunch of novels I bought that I haven’t gotten around to reading, yet. Yes, that Trelane being a (juvenile) Q makes a lot of sense. Probably also the beings that cared for Charlie X (a human given Q-like powers) were as well.

Well, at least Daniel Day-Lewis was great in “Gangs.”

Better than Blade Runner and The Matrix?!? This dude is on Bath Salts. I think you’re right about DiCaprio putting on the knee pads.

I’ve never read Gangs of New York. I assume you recommend it?

Inception was a pretty good movie, original and interesting, and with spectacular CG, but I wouldn’t call it the greatest of all time. Does Lumenick use hyperbole much? ;-)

Keep in mind that the character is supposed to be Indian, used to be acted by a Mexican, and now it’s a Brit. Trek likes to get confused that way, Picard was French played by a Brit, which gives BBCAmerica a cheap excuse to show Next Gen any time they have an hour to kill.

And Kirk was an American played by a Canadian.

Yes, but at least Montalban could be remotely believable given his ethnic look. When I learned that the villain would not be Mitchell and saw the English actor, I thought, there Abrams goes again. Frankly, J.J. is to the franchise what the Doomsday Machine was to the USS Constellation.

A lot of Indians (from the subcontinent) are quite pale, and depending on where they were educated have British accents. Remember Freddie Mercury was of Indian stock.

JJs first Trek got the best reviews a Trek has gotten since Wrath, and made more money than any 2 Trek movies combined. If that’s the doomsday machine of the franchise I want that machine to target where I work. Currently this JJ Trek is running at 88% at rotten, which again puts it in the upper echelon of Trek movies, and will probably also make more money than any 2 not JJ Trek movies.

Can't you see this guy being the Sikh superbeing ruler of a quarter of the Earth ? That macho swagger, that raw sexual energy ?

What, you don't see it ? You're right. He looks like a member of the Waltons. G'night Benny-Boy.

Now THIS is someone believable as a dictator. Intimidating, ruthless, powerful, charismatic and still very charming.
