I've always been partial to Star Trek myself.
This is bit of a silly topic but a little fun none the less.
Neat topic for sure. Not important in life but with all the seriousness that is going on, it is nice to have a little fun. I also am glad that these two franchises don’t go up against each other with a new release the same weekend....that would be something.
They didn’t even have the list handy. I grew up with Star Trek in black and white even. You need better reasons for Star wars as my like outweighs your “reason”s.
The Star Trek reboots moved me more to the Star Trek side. It seems I never move far from the center. Now they both have thrown out a Bush is bad, the US starts wars to take over movie.
What made both (Star wars and Star Trek the original cast and series) very good was the sense of humor in them. In the later Star wars ones that came out in the 2000s, Lucas all but trashed that. He took it way too serious which killed it which is why in my opinion they suck. That last one, Star wars revenge of the Sith was pretty good except for that moron Hayden whatever his name is who couldn’t act his way into a Democrat fundraiser wearing a Che shirt stuffed with money. They forget that humor = believability. That’s the way people interact in a social setting, humor is always involved in one way or another. I can’t remember one scene of humor in any of those later Star Wars episodes except for the retarded alien Jar Jar Binks which wasn’t humor at all, it was a Looney Tunes character without the charisma.

The reason for why Star Trek V was so underwhelming is because the bean counters at Paramount cut the funding for the movie.

The best of the worst?
Star Trek was forward-looking and tried to deal with social issues. By the end of the episode, it was shown that in the fight between good and evil, good needs to be clever and not always play by the rules.
Star Wars was basically a tedious soap opera about a dysfunctional family. Kind of like of Dallas. The hardware was fun, though.

I always liked Star Trek when it first came out on TV. Still like that series pretty well tho there were a few individual shows which were pretty bad.
None of the Star Trek movies were any good tho Khan was fair. All the Star Wars movies were pretty good. The first two were really good. I did think Return of the Jedi was pretty thinly veiled liberal preaching. There was one Star Trek movie which was so bad that watching it should be considered extreme punishment. That one was the “Save the Whales” movie. Absolutely the stupidest movie I have ever seen.
Star Wars did have some hot babes whether I like them or not. Star Trek had a few in various episodes but none of the regular ones were really hot tho Yeoman whatever her name was, was not bad.
Flashing colorful panel lights conveying deep meanings, social justice, science, future, Western Civilization and such. Deep, man!

I liked the original “Star Trek” tv-series, but not really anything beyond that. I liked the first two “Star Wars” movies, but didn’t really care for anything beyond that. If I had to choose, I probably go with Trek, because it holds a stronger nostalgia for me. Plus, it might also reflect my preference for science-fiction over science-fantasty.
The only way Trek (original) falters for me somewhat in retrospect is its weakness in female characters. I think it must be a Roddenberry thing. Just got through watching his other, earlier series, “The Lieutenant.” And I’m familiar with his “Have Gun Will Travel” scripts too. He’s really weak on females. Seems to look at them through a rather sexist prism, like they are all a bunch of two-diminsional cocktail waitresses. And it’s not just attributable to the era. Other series back then showed much stronger female roles, in guest-star appearances or otherwise. Roddenberry was just downright weak in this department.

Both are good in their own ways.
I definitely like the 3 original Star Wars movies better than the latter ones.
Conversely, I like the latter Star Trek Movies better than then the earlier movies (with the exception of “Wrath of Khan” and the whale movies (yes, I know it was a left-wing environmental screed, but the humor was appealing in that movie).
I like the original Star Trek TV series and the second Star Trek series. Enterprise had its moments too. However, I did not care for the space station one or the voyager.
If the Borg had a lick of sense, they wouldn't even try to conquer Earth.
They'd park a recruiting ship in low earth orbit and offer eternal life to the elderly and dying.
