A story in the Washington Post yesterday about the Internal Revenue Services Cincinnati office, which does most of the agencys nonprofit auditing, clearly contradicted earlier reports that the agencys targeting of Tea Party groups was the result of rogue agents.
The Post story anonymously quoted a staffer in Cincinnati as saying they only operate on directives from headquarters:
As could be expected, the folks in the determinations unit on Main Street have had trouble concentrating this week. Number crunchers, whose work is nonpolitical, dont necessarily enjoy the spotlight, especially when the media and the public assume theyre engaged in partisan villainy.
Were not political, said one determinations staffer in khakis as he left work late Tuesday afternoon. We people on the local level are doing what we are supposed to do. . . . Thats why there are so many people here who are flustered. Everything comes from the top. We dont have any authority to make those decisions without someone signing off on them. There has to be a directive.

KEEP DIGGING!
Mr. President....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L18jsq8qk9Q
“...doing what we are supposed to do...”
means “doing what we are told to do.”
“What did Obama know, and when did he know it?”
This is impeachable.
Where’s Deepthroat?

"AG Holder has faxed a White House warrant to seize
your entire family's miserable TeaParty kidneys and corneas.
If you do not have a Koran, SUBMIT or die."

If there’s a directive, there’s something written somewhere, hopefully electronically and on paper.
As much is obvious to those with eyes willing to see.

Who signed the directive?
They, the IRS, knows it! WE Americans know it. It’s the low information Obama types who are clueless about what went on here. It doesn’t help that the toads in Barry’s state run “media” keep misleading the low information types with their 30 second sound bites on the nightly “news”.
Keep up the good work Issa! ...don't back down!
Watergate class shredders are working overtime.
Something like this would be done verbally. There will be no paper trail.
As if that excuses the IRS employee. Jail time!
The left never consider what they do political. Auditing and targeting “criminal” groups who disagree with the president is just part of their job
The IG report didn't rely on emails, only employee statements. So there should be a trail to follow, but, Witholder didn't document his recusal in the AP case and conveniently didn't remember the date he recused himself. So, this group of corrupt thugs are good at avoiding official channels of communication (phone calls, using personal email accounts, etc.)
We know that zero’s administration is corrupt and dictatorial, but the IRS scandal is over the top. Not only were conservatives and Tea Party members under intense IRS scrutiny, but Christians were also under attack.
In some reports that I have read, IRS agents interrogated Christian leaders and evangelicals asking, among other disturbing things, what the “content” of their prayers were. This goes beyond the pale.
Were we really passionate about liberty and freedom, we would not only demand that everyone responsible for this outrage be tried and jailed, but that the IRS be dismantled and the president impeached. But, since we don’t really care, we’ll just get more popcorn and ignore the fact that zero has turned our country into a corrupt dictatorship in which our rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution are being routinely dismantled and shredded.
They knew this was coming 6 months ago. It took them that long to purge every possible smoking gun and, only then, did they allow the Inspector General's report to surface. The only hope is that someone with a conscience will have secreted a copy of a memo or something like that.

Yes, impeachment first.
When the dam breaks on this clown, get ready. IMHO, he’ll try to start a war somewhere for distraction. These three fires are burning out-of-control.
Michelle Bachman in an interview this week said that the lower level grunt employee do only what directed to do and have a supervisor checking all their work
She also referred to directives coming down from the top
Someone has signed that directive and if following government procedure have held at least one training session to make sure it is implemented consistently throughout the system
There WILL be a trail
No low level will go to jail to cover up for supervisor
The private sector will outdo the public sector. The trial lawyers have a huge class action case here and will uncover far more than Issa. Although I applaud Issa
Just like good little commies.
“Something like this would be done verbally. There will be no paper trail.”
Never put something in writing when you can say it on the phone.
Never say something on the phone when you can say it in person.
Never speak when you can nod.
Never nod when you can wink.
Never communicate at all when you can hire someone who will know what to do without instructions.
Exactly. Exactly.
I started my career as a lowly account clerk After awhile I transferred to our county’s welfare dept. my job there was checking the eligibility workers work before the cases were processed. The cases went from the worker to their supervisor to me to someone else in the same unit to be processed. That was 3 chances for stuff to be caught. You can’t tell me that any government agency is any different on the checks and rechecks. That is the way govt systems work.
Damn right it comes from the top. Low level employees are not going to do this on their own. I know from working for the goverment for 12 years that these people were lying through their teeth. The fact that the supervisor received over 109K in bonuses shows to me she was being paid off by the higher ups. The other thing that strikes me funny about all these peole, Holder, H. Clinton and other cabinette level members saying the didn’t know or no one told them. W”hat the hell do the cabinette members talk about at their briefings anyway, it sire isn’t running the government. Fire the whole lot of them. Also, Hillery has as much business being Commander in Chief as my frigging Chihuahua.
That is how Michelle Bachman and our friend Linda explained it. Rule/procedures come down from the top. One person does job another checks them supervisor(often an attorney) resolves any issues. But ALL are compliant with the orders that came down. New regs rules were a nightmare that triggered much training and retraining under supervisor who had been trained by higher up!
It's how it works.
Someone signed that directive.

Raise your hand if you’re shocked. Anyone? Anyone?
The libs on MSNBC are actually arguing that the IRS did nothing wrong at all, nothing, and that of course Bush (appointee) was in charge of the IRS at the time, not Obama.
To them this is government at its best(you wont hear Gregory put Dems on the spot for saying that on MSNBC ) .... welcome OBama-care.
bump
If blacks had been profiled in this fashion by the IRS, liberal elites would get it - and be outraged
Liberals aren't fooling us - we know they understand - it's not rocket science.
Whites in the Jim Crow South knew they were discriminating when blacks had difficult written test to take to earn the right to vote... While southern whites just walked in and signed a card. The IRS knew they were discrimination when the Tea Party had to fill out impossible forms while liberal elites just signed a card.
And the folks at MSNBC? They're lying... they get what's going on - they're just standing with the racists of old and the thugs of our day...
Yes Lurker, you and I know that... the press would know it too if they bothered to ask a few questions - or just took their heads out of the sand...
Had the IRS had targeted gay groups the New York Times would understand and be 'flooding the zone'. If blacks had been profiled in this fashion by the IRS, the Washington Post would get it - and be outraged.
Liberals aren't fooling anyone - not even themselves. We know they understand.
Whites in the Jim Crow South knew they were discriminating against blacks when difficult written test were required for blacks to vote. While southern whites just walked in and signed a card. Small minded thugs did it to blacks because they could get away with it - and because they were petty totalitarians.
The IRS knew they were discriminating when the Tea Party had to fill out impossible forms while liberal elites just 'walked in' and signed a card.
And the folks in the press? They're lying... they get what's going on - they're just standing with the racists of old and the thugs of our day...
