If this isn’t the greatest love song ever written, what is?

The boffins on the Weather Channel make me sick. One of them said this morning (breathlessly) “When have you ever seen a President respond this quickly to a disaster?”

It sure is. But it isn’t about infatuation or emotion. It’s about enduring, sustaining love.

Piers thinks Bill Nye is a boffin
Since he played on on TV so often
When tornados come through,
What does he do?
Play politics on children's coffins

I don’t suppose you watch “Veep” on HBO. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the VP and it’s a quite funny show. Last night she was hate-flirting with her ex while they were all celebrating their daughter’s 21st birthday. All while smiling constantly so that no one would get a photo of her looking “angry.”

It was quite awkward for the daughter, with her parents talking about how good their sex was.

My spouse is a true romantic and reminds me of it often, how he is more so than me. This is the ringtone he has for me on his phone. I think that is one of the best love songs.

Boffin

“I knew a boffin on coffins, for sure a real die guy with the griff on a stiff, Diggs was his name, 100% satisfaction he claimed....” From Festercorn P. Tidewaters soon to be written book, The Boffin of Blow.

i can see that he would be more romantic than you : ) i am not really a romantic and i thank the Lord that xshub isn’t either. i have to say i just don’t LIKE love songs. But i like the best friend song, that’s not sappy. Sappy makes me uncomfortable, i am not sure why, but i just don’t like it.

i can’t in a zillion years imagine doing anything like that in front of my kids. kids do not need to know that their parents have sex, IMO! i recall when the wife of one of my colleagues was expecting a bit later in life, when his older kids were in HS, and him telling me how awkward it was for them bc it was proof postive that they were having sex.

there is a pic in existence of xshub and i BOTH dressed in colonial garb from when xsboy was in 4th grade, bc that was COLONIAL DAY at St James. Parents staffed that event complete with colonial dancing, butter churning, paper making etc. i loved that event! i was chairperson each year my kids were in 4th grade.

i guess if i think about it, i just don't like WHITE ballads, bc i still love this, which was our wedding song. so,i do like black ballads. And they aren't singing about sinking ships, dying miners, etc. It's another reason i can't stand country music, i can't stand BAWLING over songs.

You’re definitely not Irish then. All our songs are sad. Ghosts of dead girls hawking seafood through the streets, people getting married the day before the man is put to death for being a revolutionary, pining for lost loves who went across the ocean.

Whiskey in the jar? This is a happy song?

*********************
I went up to my chamber, all for to take a slumber
I dreamt of gold and jewels and for sure ‘t was no wonder
But Jenny blew me charges and she filled them up with water
Then sent for captain Farrell to be ready for the slaughter

That song has always been a favorite of mine.

All the airhead boffins
No matter how well degreed
Who worship global warning
Are smoking too much weed

The coldest spring in ages
Is barely over and done-
And smoke from South America
Makes a haze to block the sun-

With people in those countries
Slashing and burning trees
How will our efforts here lower
The temperature a few degrees?

And that is not the meaning I attach to that word, either-it is a polite euphemism for something else, as in Clinton was boffin every woman in sight...

Another one of my favorites. I’ve only heard James Taylor record it but that one, Going to Carolina in My Mind, and Fire and Rain almost make me forget what a lunatic he is.

James Taylor is actually a certified loon-but I do like “Fire and Rain”

I can’t hear “Cats in the Cradle” without thinking of a parody of it that was out in the late 90’s-somehing like “have you ever wondered when you eat Chinese if its really chicken or a fat Siamese? Cats in the kettle at the Shanghai moon, etc.” It was hilarious...
