A Woodside man was found guilty of murdering his wife and covering it up as a suicide to collect insurance money this afternoon in San Mateo County Superior Court, prosecutors said.
After four days of deliberation, the jury returned with a guilty verdict of first-degree murder for Pooroushash "Peter" Parineh, 67, in the shooting death of his wife Parima Parineh on April 13, 2010.
Parineh testified that on that day he found his 56-year-old wife's bloody body in bed in the master bedroom of their Woodside mansion.
She was shot twice in the head, with wounds that prosecutors said could not have been self-inflicted.
Parineh was in dire financial straits when his wife died, according to lawyers and witnesses from both the defense and prosecution.
Five of his properties were in foreclosure and he was within days of being evicted from his Woodside home.
Apparently his wife had more than $30 million worth of life insurance policies in her name, which prosecutors argued provided a motive for the suicide cover-up in her murder.
The defense contested that Parima Parineh, an accomplished painter, was depressed in the months before her death and that she shot herself knowing her family was facing financial ruin.
The defense argued that the gunshot would that entered from the right of her mouth and out the left side of her head might not have been fatal, allowing her to fire a second shot.
At the end of the trial, which began mid-April, the jury found Parineh guilty of murder with the special circumstance of killing for financial gain and for using a firearm.
Parineh is set to be sentenced on July 12. He faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Last year prosecutors decided not to seek the death penalty in the case.
hmmm, I wonder if the second shot gave me away...
Shot twice in the head? My oh my. She was determined.
I read where most suicides by women are by poison.
Hey! “Pooroushash” is my middle name!
“A Woodside man was found guilty of murdering his wife and covering it up as a suicide to collect insurance money this afternoon in San Mateo County Superior Court,”
Is it me or does this read as if he was going to collect insurance money this afternoon in San Mateo County Superior Court?
The “new journalism”.
A run on sentence by a professional journalist? LOL Here in NY state, they don’t even teach grammar in grade school anymore. Expect lots more of this in years to come.
I looked it up. Poisoning is the most common method of female suicide, but it’s only 37.4%, so it’s hardly uncommon for another method to be used. I would imagine that only people with some familiarity with fire arms use that method. 56% of male suicides are with fire arms.
I thought he murdered her and covered it up this afternoon.
If they use a gun it is usually a chest shot.
If this is the result of the “new” education in English, Heaven help us if the accountants at the IRS are similarly educated in the “new” math.
That said, I can picture a lot of improbable things, like 20 more Ted Cruz clones being added to the Congress next election cycle and us taking over the Senate with a filibuster-proof majority...
Well, it worked for the Clintons (Vince Foster).
It worked for whoever killed Gary Webb (the reporter who exposed Federal Government links to cocaine cartels).
2 shots are good enough for government work but not for the little people.
I don’t know if this is still true, but I also read that women who jumped off bridges etc. would take their coat and sometimes shoes off and neatly fold the coat before they jump.
It also said that women think about suicide and attempt it more, but men succeed at actually killing themselves more. Make of that what you will.
Interesting. For all the media says about women having such issues with their looks, even (assumably very depressed) women, don't feel a loathing for their face.
Doesn't being shot in the face also have some significance in mafia killings?
Now you know what they call peters in Sanskrit.
How about this: how many wives are insured for $30 million. That seems excessive and an undue temptation for some people. Why would anyone not Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, etc. be insured for this much?
Had several policies. He sure didn’t think his cunning plan through. First thing cops would look at him and what he’d gain.
Well, be careful what you wish for. He was worried about his finances and defaulting on his house. That is no longer a major concern for him. He’ll never have to worry about a mortgage again.
Maybe he’ll have some relief now. No worries re: debts.
I would guess the first thing investigators check is the financial situation of the person claiming innocence in the violent death of a loved one(s). Just had a trial in my area of a man convicted of murdering his wealthy parents for their money. One big reason for suspicion was the guy was in deep financial trouble having wasted a large wad of dough given to him by his parents. He blamed drug dealers for his parent’s deaths. He still claims he’s innocent. But the b.....d did it.
Drama queens or just want someone to notice they are suffering?
