I really used to like youtube.com. Watched old movies, gun videos, how-to videos, and all sorts of unusual films.
Am watching an old series on British Commandos tonite.
But the video ads now added to youtube are so incredibly disruptive that I have started to cut my usage down dramatically.
There is a mechanism...another site...that permits one to watch a youtube video without the ads (just add a "skip" after youtube in the address) but even that is getting overwhelmed with traffic.
Thoughts please.
Perhaps it makes sense to set up a website on which to post your favorite youtube videos without the ads.
My favorite gun videos are Hickok45, even nutnfancy...but the ads are ruining this stuff.
There are several movie type websites and Hulu that insert ads.
I watched a couple of movies on crackle.com. Every 10 minutes, the movies were interrupted with the same commercial. I counted some 22 breaks with the same ad. I seldom watch anything on those ad-supported channels.
I do subscribe to Netflix streaming.
I also have DVR-ed many tv series, cut out the commercials, and saved them to disk. I occasionally ‘marathon’ an old series that I haven’t watched in a while.
They are in business to make money.
wanna check out my new library card well i mean do want to see it you cant check it out unless you have a library card you know one of the best parts of reading is you get to do it without worrying about recording or ads or taking breaks cause you dont miss a thing reading is be fun and i bet if you tried it you would like it too

They are overreaching IMHO. Killing good bidness for a few extra pennies.
Not so with videos...I can just keep on sipping.
BTW, just to plug a couple of good books, just read "1776" and "John Adams" by David McCullough on Kindle...highly recommend. But reading and drinking are an unnatural combination.;-)

You can watch the youtube videos without any commercials.
Always use DownloadHelper to download the film. After the file begins to download just open the directory where it is being saved and drag and drop the file onto VLC media player.
This is also useful for those with slow DSL that cannot watch high-bandwidth video live. Just wait until the remaining download time is shorter than the length of the video and then start watching the stored file. If you don’t close the youtube page after the file begins downloading then you are using twice as much bandwidth so close the page.
If the film turns out to be a keeper you already have a copy saved :-)

I have an ap called “Playtube”. It downloads youtube contnent for later viewing, like when you are out of range of wireless. None of the stuff I download comes with commercials.
I like the Playtube ap better than the youtube ap.
I use a terrific shareware program called AdMuncher. it blocks all popups, all banner ads, and all video ads. And, if you like, you can block other stuff on sites that you visit often.
It’s a very small program, updated every day, and it actually speeds things up, since you don’t have to download all those large ads when you visit various websites.
Basically, I go all over the net without noticing that there ARE any ads. One of the few shareware program I have used since its conception, follow in beta, never have any problems with, and can’t do without.
