Chestnut gobbles up 11 pounds of pastrami sandwich Joey "Jaws" Chestnut is more than just a Fourth-of-July phenomenon.
Best known for his domination of the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest each July 4, the San Jose State graduate and renowed competitve eater set a new world record by eating 25 pastrami sandwiches in 10 minutes Sunday at Katz's Delicatessen World Pastrami Eating Championship in New York City.
At a speed of 1.1 pounds per minute, Chestnut took down 11 pounds as the famous deli celebrated its 125th anniversary.
Just a short time later, Chestnut deemed himself fit for a night of celebration.
In about a month, Chestnut will return to New York as he attempts to win his seventh straight Mustard Belt at Nathan's and eclipse the career-best streak of Japanese eating legend Takeru Kobayashi, who won six in a row before Chestnut won his first in 2007.

Mmmmmm, Katz’s Deli pastrami sammiches!
Now see what you’ve done? I’m HONGRY!
A pastrami sandwich and a knish, washed down with a cream soda, that’s what we need!
Pastrami’s just a corned beef that’s been smoked.
Can you imagine the next day? They must have an industrial strength plunger next to the toilet.
Well after an event in Alaska the competitors laughed about shooting shrimp the next day. I think I’ll stop right there.
I often wondered if they vomited afterward. I know I would! There’s no way my system could hold down that much food.
First-World sports stories.
10 minutes later, he keeled over, dead.
