Word For The Day, Monday, June 3, 2013
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of Word for the Day.
effrontery; noun shameless or impudent boldness; barefaced audacity: She had the effrontery to ask for two free samples. 2. an act or instance of this.
Etymology: from French effronterie, from Old French esfront barefaced, shameless, from Late Latin effrons, literally: putting forth one's forehead; see front ]
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFBs attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Here is my example with WFTD.
IRS officials in Cincinnati are wondering how Obams et.al have the effrontery to lay all the blame on them.
come to class one and all!
i have PT and will be back in an hour. When I get back, there better be butts in seats and homework on my desk!
Do you actually have the effrontary to demand homework from us while you are out the door? I’m going to go mow the grass.
Ooooops! That’s effrontery, not effrontary.
Our gif disapparated! Sorry that the regular mail template didn’t process like it should have!
One of my favorite words. This one was on one of my weekly 12th-grade English vocabulary lists back in the day. The Obama Administration is full of it.
How adorable! What breed is your puppy?
My friend has a pair of “Hava-Malts” who look just like your pup. They are half Havanese and half Maltese and just as cute as buttons. They are far different from her previous two dogs — a German Shepherd and a Yellow Lab. The Hava-Malts are like cats and never seem to sit still. However, 2 Hava-Malts can run around and not be annoying. Not the same as big dogs at all.
Posting a non-existent picture is an effrontery...
He just has the one front paw? ;-)
"She had the extreme effrontery to wear a revealing low-cut dress at the formal business gathering."
He just has the one front paw? ;-)
The ultimate effrontery.
Awe, your puppy is beautiful!
I felt that the original blame game of saying two rogue employees did all the damage might work because they could easily offer those two some cushy job to keep silent...but 80 IRS agents will be harder to control. Hoping this goes somewhere!
A friend of mine had the effrontery to tell me that every penny of debt that obama has added since his coronation is purely because of Bush and his policies. I told her she’s a bigger fool than I ever thought. I don’t think she’s gonna gimme some any more. Hell, that works better then Costanza’s “IOt’s not you, it’s ME” line.
It is pretty amazing how many liberals believe that line....they aren’t the brightest you know.
The ultimate effrontery.
That's where the word chutz-paw comes from.
And sort of like a fox-paw?
Well, the democrat-socialist-communists couldn’t conquer the US from without, so they got in behind and are doing the from within the government and universities: right effront’reyes in fact.
And the nation’s news media are leading the effort.
The level of Barry’s effrontery
Surpasses Bill Clinton’s adultery
“Rogue agents in Cincy”
Trumps licks from Lewinsky
Fake outrage, the key to “transparency”
That might be a mistake. :)
What!!! A WFTD and no example picture!
Then again, are you sure gabz didn't have that dress on backwards? 8<)
you had a professional photographer????
oh no problem, i have the template and list at my ofc but am working from home on PT days! this worked fine we don’t need to be fancy all the time ; )
yes the O administration is a posterchild for this word! A++
why can’t i see your pic now?
‘Effrontery’ is the Gentile version of ‘Chutzpah’.
you were dating an obamabot??????? A++ but i might have to take a plus away for that sort of misguided behavior!
wow, we got a PG13 piece o homework right there!LOL!!! A++++
LOL! that’s a great way to put it!
took him long enough! A+++
I finished watching AD last night. It didn’t really have an ending or tie together any of the various plots.
I did like how you some of the scenes became more sensible when you saw them from another character’s perspective.
It was OK, but failed to have an overarching logic. They tied everything into the hotel with the various events going on and to Cinco de Quatro, but there was nothing there.
Is it supposed to be a mystery what happened to Lucille 2?
We’re to believe that Lindsey and Tobias were sitting in adjacent rows on a plane and didn’t see each other?
How does pretending to build a wall make the case for not building a wall?
With all that investment, couldn’t they actually hire people to make Fakeblock real?
I understand the limitations that had to work with in terms of shooting the cast as different times. It’s just that the ride was as time enjoyable but there was no destination.
Like Steve Holt, it’s better days were years ago.
i keep hope alive that somehow, someway, they will be made to pay for all they’ve done!
i went to see Great Gatsby with xskids yesterday. xsboy must’ve been bored, i was surprised he decided to come along. They’d all had to read it in school, as i am sure i did, though i had zero recollection of the plot and had to ask them afterwards was it faithful to the book? it was updated with contemporary music etc. It was enjoyable. if i saw the one from the 70s i don’t recall it either. I have to say one thing that struck me and i imagine it was intentional, as an attempt to be faithful to the period— the women were a bit chunkier than is the fashion these days. Not the main characters, but the music acts at the Gatsby mansion were more marilyn monroe-like, than skinny minnies, as far as legs etc.
It was pretty funny when i was looking on moviephone to see how long it was, it said something in the description like; “contains some violent images, sexual content and SMOKING” oh how EVIL that is! guess they couldn’t whitewash out that sign of the times!
I forgot to add the WFTD of which Ted Baxter is a prime example. Effrontery, thy persona is O’Reilly.
Poor Steve Holt.
I think it was a set-up for next season, who killed Lucille 2.
I try not to get into the politics of that show but I found the whole Drone War bit hilarious.
As to Faceblock, we now have a brand new generation of securities fraud. Ahh like Gange like grandson.
And yes, we are supposed to suspend disbelief on the whole flight to India thing.
Sort of off topic but have you watched the series “The Leauge”
Yikes, serial posting here while just checking back into the thread. My kiddo loved the book and has read some of his others but thinks this is his best. She went with friends to the movie and she was the only one who had even read the book. It wasn’t required for any of them so they didn’t read it. It wasn’t required for me back in the day but I read it anyway and thought it was meh. I did not like them not using music exclusively from the genre. And not just because I am underwhelmed by contemporary urban stuff. Different strokes...
xshub’s niece, who is recently engaged, had a professional photog do their engagement photos. xsteen assures me this is done these days, but it was not done in my day and i think it’s a waste of money. but anyway, they had their’s done during cherry blossom season down at the jefferson memorial, so if you are going to spend $ doing that, i suppose that is a nice location and how they managed to do it without RANDOM TOURISTS in any of the shots, i have no idea! bc that is a major achievement. They had their little dog there with them and i guess a friend to hold his leash, and he would distract the tourists while the photog did a shot etc. They had plenty done with Maxwell in the pic too, and some done of him alone, which were very cute, but clearly it was as an adjunct to their engagement pix. whyisa, i know your daughter had some done, and xsteen said it was very big at UD among the engaged, and one of classmates from St James had it done, but she lives in NYC and had some very artsy ones done with street scenes etc.
20’s stuff is all the rage today because of Boardwalk Empire.
yes i read all of his books, along with all of hemingway’s and gertude stein etc. because they were all of a piece with the Jazz Age, Lost Generation, Americans in Paris idea. We talked about it afterwards and only xsbaby’s class had done it as a part of that period and talked about it and watched a movie about that period [Midnight in Paris]. Now that i think of it, i think i read that on my own.
Nope, never heard of it.
You can get your “Buster” fix with Tony Hale in HBO’s “Veep.”
