MLB seeks to suspend A-Rod, Braun

Major League Baseball will seek to suspend about 20 players connected to the Miami-area clinic at the heart of an ongoing performance-enhancing drug scandal, including Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun, possibly within the next few weeks, "Outside the Lines" has learned. If the suspensions are upheld, the performance-enhancing drug scandal would be the largest in American sports history.

Tony Bosch, founder of the now-shuttered Biogenesis of America, reached an agreement this week to cooperate with MLB's investigation, two sources told "Outside the Lines," giving MLB the ammunition officials believe they need to suspend the players.

One source familiar with the case said the commissioner's office might seek 100-game suspensions for Rodriguez, Braun and other players, the penalty for a second doping offense. The argument, the source said, is the players' connection to Bosch constitutes one offense, and previous statements to MLB officials denying any such connection or the use of PEDs constitute another.

I remember when the steroid thing first started and the Mariners had one of their relievers on the list. I had to ask myself, if he was on steroids shouldn’t he be pitching better?

Personally I think this is all stupid and not worth wasting taxpayer dollars on it but I still wish players wouldn’t do it at all.

I’m just not sure that PEDs really enhance performance all that much.

I’d like to see an investigation of the current politicians in the COngress and Senate that are on drugs. The decisions they make, the bills they introduce all seems to be “out in left field” most of the time. Sounds like they too would qualify for suspensions for longer than 100 games, how about for life.

A lot of the time, it is the THOUGHT that PED's enhance performance that is most important.

Later in a career, PED's do help little aches and pains get better faster so a player can play up to the MLB professional level longer.

Unless you can take a guy off the street and turn him into a home run hitter through the use of PEDs, I see no real evidence. At best PEDs turn double hitters into home run hitters.

MLB will rue the day they tried to suspend Ryan Braun again.

He’s already beaten them once. The same arbitrator will let him go again, and smack down baseball doubly-hard for picking on him with a revenge motive. Such are the ways of union enforced arbitration.

Bud Selig needs to learn what a no-win situation looks like.

PED’s absolutely help guys, especially when they start losing a little speed on their fastball, etc.
They help you recover from injuries much faster.

Let me ask you this.....

IF you were negotiating your contract in another year and it would help you get an extra $5 million dollars a year for the next six years, would you take them?

That's a pretty signficant impact, isn't it? Especially if it is leaguewide. While it can't be considered definitive proof, offensive output increased signficantly around 2000, right the middle of the steroid era. In 2011, it dropped to early 90s levels.

That’s because the Yankees can afford to pay the big bucks. With the exception of Jeter and Rivera. The whole Yankees team for the last 10 years has been composed of the most expensive free agents available in the majors.

These are the players that are mid way through their career and take PED’s to keep hitting homers and keep their fastball in the mid 90’s. Also, many of these contracts are structured with performance incentives(hits, home runs, RBIs, etc.).
