MLB seeks to suspend A-Rod, Braun
ESPN ^ | 6/5/2013 | T.J. Quinn, Pedro Gomez and Mike Fish

Major League Baseball will seek to suspend about 20 players connected to the Miami-area clinic at the heart of an ongoing performance-enhancing drug scandal, including Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun, possibly within the next few weeks, "Outside the Lines" has learned. If the suspensions are upheld, the performance-enhancing drug scandal would be the largest in American sports history.

Tony Bosch, founder of the now-shuttered Biogenesis of America, reached an agreement this week to cooperate with MLB's investigation, two sources told "Outside the Lines," giving MLB the ammunition officials believe they need to suspend the players.

One source familiar with the case said the commissioner's office might seek 100-game suspensions for Rodriguez, Braun and other players, the penalty for a second doping offense. The argument, the source said, is the players' connection to Bosch constitutes one offense, and previous statements to MLB officials denying any such connection or the use of PEDs constitute another.

That's a pretty signficant impact, isn't it?

Not really when you consider that doubles are generally balls that go to the wall and home runs are balls that go over it. Triples are an insignificant divider due to the fact that they're generally the result of poor fielding.

It can’t take a no talent guy like me and turn me into a big leaguer.
A lot of sports is eye/hand coordination. You could pump me full of roids BUT, I still will not be able to hit a 85 mph fastball, much less 95-100 mph.

Try going to a local fun park batting cage and try to hit a ball going over 75 mph.

Those are the real reasons why there are so few guys like Ted Williams.

A home run secures at least 1 run; a double does not. A home run guarantees that the bases are cleared; a double does not.

If PEDs are in widespread use and provide the benefit you identified, they can impact runs, RBIs, and slugging percentage. PEDs can also turn long outs into home runs.
They may not turn a .250 hitter into a .350 hitter, but they can turn a .250 hitter with "warning track power" into a .270 hitter with home run power.

At best PED's are a tiny edge for a struggling pro. Jhonny Peralta is good but not spectacular. If he goes a few games without a hit, they start talking about sending him to Toledo to work on it.

On the other hand there is Miguel Cabrerra. You can clearly demonstrate why he's the hitter he is by noting how many hits he gets from outside the strike zone. His concentration is pretty obvious as well.

A lot from the American league. I have the solution, get rid of the DH.

Look at their numbers! Better at 40 than 35? No to mention their physiques.

Also, turning a “doubles hitter” into a home run hitter is precisely enhancing their performance.

Wow. Alex Avila just made a double play by himself at 3rd base.

Runner got caught in a rundown between 3rd and home right at 3rd base and the runner from 2nd thought he could sneak in and Avila tagged him too as he slid into 3rd.

Montero got sent down. If he was using PEDs, they weren’t working.

Braun is guilty as shite. What a terrible liar he is, he should run for Congress.

Just come clean and beg for mercy Ryan.

A-Rod will look at his health and the suspension and decide to retire. One can only hope.

He's not giving up the more than $100 million the Yankees owe him.

The Yankees’ll be sucking wind without A-Rod.

Why would that be when Kevin Youkilis is putting the same numbers he has put up over the past couple of years?

But they could be getting the same numbers from Youkilis and have A-Rod at short, too.

He still gets paid, but mostly by the insurance policy. He’d come off the Yankees’ payroll, however, and they’d save about 80 percent of the remaining value.

The ‘roids couldn’t have been that good if Nellie Cruz missed that fly ball in Game 6.

Change their names to Bonds and McGuire!

Or to "Sammy Sooser" and "Mike McGwire."

They certainly aren’t the magic that some think they are.

Frankly I don’t care if the pros use them or not because they have the money to deal with the potential medical issues down the road.

I’d really rather see legislation that seriously punishes those who provide them to high school kids.
