In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

mordacious mordacious \mawr-DEY-shuhs\, adjective
1. sharp or caustic in style, tone, etc.
2. biting or given to biting.

Example sentences:
She was hoping that neither Garth nor Otto would bungle and embarrass her and that we wouldn't be the brunt of some mordacious Page Six gossip column for arriving in an old car.
-- Brian M. Wiprud, Pipsqueak, 2004

Emma had almost made it into the safety of the kitchen when out of the dark, and away from the masses, Patrick appeared. "Well, well, well." His tone was mordacious.
-- Jane Sigaloff, Technical Hitch, 2005

Etymology:
Mordacious came into English in the 1640s from the Latin word mordāx meaning "given to biting."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Incisive wit leads to either mordacious comments or grinding, staring silence.

I think it's simpler to just say that Obama strongly objects to religion.

State Dept mordaciously addresses OIG employee's children when she turns whistleblower. There is soooooo much that's rotten in all four corners of Denmark it's not even funny.

I’m looking at the fine print of my new car yesterday and I realize that the government stole 6 horsepower from me.

In certain states they only sell a version of the engine that is “Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle” rated, which has reduced hp and torque.

So here I am, unwittingly helping to save the planet. Shouldn’t I get a tax credit or something?

I wish one of the reviews I had read had mentioned this. There are 13 states where they have these regulations.

I guess the next version of the standard will be called “Mega Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle.” Followed by “Uber Mega Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle.”

No, it isn’t. But Maryland is.

Ohio would have been closer. I don’t know what kind of rigamarole you have to go through to buy a car out of state. It’s probably not worth the effort.

I don’t blame Kia, they had the numbers on their brochure with a footnote listing which states.

It just seems that the automotive press doesn’t make a mention of these environmental things unless they write a special article for those looking for “green” vehicles.

so last night xshub comes to me with a credit card bill asking what these two charges were for, for $250 each 4 days apart at the end of May. i had no idea! he said you really need to start printing out receipts for stuff you order online! so i couldn’t imagine what this was, was fairly sure i had not ordered anything for that much esp TWO of them! but was left feeling guilty and worried about it. so i called just now to see what the charges were and it’s a fundraising site, she said it could be for schools or political groups etc. So it twarn’t me! He’s at a drs appt now, but it could possibly be HE who made the charges, since he and xsbaby went to a fundraiser/reception with the Fairfax County Republicans a few weeks ago. In any event, if it wasn’t him, we will dispute the charges.

I got the diagnosis from the cardiologist today. Atrial Fibrillation, or A-Fib. Basically, an occasional irregular heartbeat. All the other heart tests were perfect—no plaque, arteries are fine, etc. They had given me an event monitor which I carried around for several weeks until I felt the irregular heartbeat. I recorded it with the monitor and that confirmed the initial theory.

It’s no big deal—not life-threatening. I should cut the caffeine down (easy) and the wine (a little tougher) but I will be “fine.”
