Thank you! I’d just re-read “Atlas Shrugged” the last time, and young and idealistic as I was, I was wishing I could go galt-this time-much older, jaded and cynical-I’m working on doing just that, as fast as I can...

Is the post screwed into the stair tread with a wood bolt or screw? You need to check that first, and if it is, find how to tighten it by rotating it in the proper direction. If it isn’t screwed/bolted down, how is it attached?

If it is attached to the stair with a bolt/screw-
Put some construction cement or wood glue into the gap and gently rotate it until it is anchored tightly. Wipe up the excess glue or construction cement right away-then go back at 15 minute intervals and do it again, because it will continue to seep out for quite awhile.

I can’t rotate it and I think it is just hammered into the railing at the top. It is definitely wobbly so I am waiting for my son to return from Depot with some shims. It looks like the bottom must be bolted in somehow. Honestly, I cannot tell.
