Word For The Day, Monday, 6/17/13
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
noun 1. a wooden framework erected on a post, with holes for securing the head and hands, formerly used to expose an offender to public derision. verb (used with object) 2. to set in the pillory. 3. to expose to public derision, ridicule, or abuse: The candidate mercilessly pilloried his opponent.
Etymology: 122575; Middle English pyllory < Old French pilori, perhaps < Medieval Latin pīlōrium, equivalent to Latin pīl ( a ) pillar (see pile1 ) + -ōrium -ory2 , though Romance variants such as Provençal espillori suggest a less transparent source
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
Marco Rubio has been rightfully pilloried for his tone-deafness on the immigration stuff.

No pushing at the door please!
Do I get extra points for using it in the future verb tense as well as the present nominative?
The rhyming of this word with Hillary should inspire some interesting responses.
A+++++ that was a great job of using both forms of the word too!
that was the first thing i thought of!
Barack should be placed in a pillory
Alongside the one saved for Hillary
But while I am dreaming
The liberals are scheming
And loading up heavy artillery
KNEW it! great job!! A++++
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, he’s the most anti-Catholic English speaking politician since Henry VIII.
What we call Hillary when she’s heavily medicated.
FR will continue to pillory Hillary.
Heading to Jacksonville for an all-week training class/boondoggle. 4 of us, including my boss are going. Should be fun.
WOW you just blew mine out of the water, great job
Interesting side comment about our conversation with the old foe/ally. He claims to have run into a friend at a local funeral who is a member of the special Forces. This man (son of our neighbor) claims to have been a ‘friend’ of the late Amb. Chris Stevens. He said that he saw Amb. Stevens just before he left on his assigment to Libya, and Stevens was ‘scared to death’ about the prospect. FWIW.
Obama should try saying that over HERE. I’m sure the Bishops would stomp him with their other foot.
But, an interesting side effect of school choice and the rise of Charter schools. According to my daughter who lives in a suburb of Albany, NY, Catholic schols are closing right and left because Charter schools are free, and Catholic schools are expensive. Double-edged blade.
A+++ which she alternates with being flat out drunk!
A+++ that is definitely what i had in mind : )
It’s time to order a pillory
To hold Barack, Michelle and Hillary
Personally, I favor heads on pikes over the pillory when it comes to the O administration.
steer clear of the strip clubs!
Catholic churchs in upstate NY are closing, so the closing of Catholic schools up there doesn’t surprise me. I don’t think you can generalize that to the rest of the country though. Catholic schools in suburban DC are robust, despite having the very top rated public schools in the country here in Fairfax and Montgomery counties.
prefect threesome! A+++
Well, the churches are merging. I’m just reporting my daughter’s remarks which were more a commentary on the motives parents may have for sending their kids to private school. Many families seek private education for the social status, rather than the education, or the religous support. When the Catholic schools get too pricey they’ll turn elsewhere, if it is free, or cheaper.
I just heard the other day that Divine Savior Holy Angels (an old merger of 2 high schools) is now costing $17,000 per year. I know a lot of people who sacrifice to meet that bill and a lot of folks who would opt for the public school and save the tuition money for college.
You need to add a 4th hole for Holder.
Nowadays, with Craigslist you can order in. ;-)
Most everyone i know sent their kids to Catholic school, and it was for the religious support. I think it’s noteworthy that people stood in line to get in to the Catholic elementary schools when Falls Church City and Fairfax Co. schools are top ranked nationwide. Public schools elsewhere are very different than here. PC bs is rampant.
My Catholic grammar and high school closed about 15 years after I graduated. The church is still there, along with the hospital. My theory was, not enough folks hanging around to pay tuition, aka white flight.
how nice for you. xsgirls and i went to see The Internship this weekend. Lots of Lucille Ball moments of awkwardness, but overall a feel good story. I LOLed a fair amount. I love Vince Vaughn.
xsboy was in MI for a work trip yesterday and didn’t get in until midnight. But the rest of us went out for brunch on Capitol Hill after church. I thought it was so nice that when we were getting ready to leave, the waitress came up to our table and told xshub that she had been watching people for the past two days and that he was by far the BEST LOVED DAD that she had seen, just by our demeanor at the table. I thought that was nice of her to report.
HA! love the tagline! A++++
oh please, why do they even let them speak. A+++
It’s obvious they desperately need those scholarships they are vying for.
Hey I’m the #1 dad. I have the mug to prove it. ;-)
This weekend, I had an estimate and a couple errands nearby-I was newly appalled at the way the awful economy has turned this place into a collection of closed businesses and empty houses because of the exodus of both full time residents and summer people-it is a ghost village...
It looks as if the ruin
Is on schedule after all
For Obama and his minions
To take a Nixonian fall
The foundation is being laid
For a big bipartisan pillory
Built by both left and right
Just for Obama-and maybe Hillary...
And what turns foe to friend,
More than any hovering drone
Is collecting information from
Every computer and every phone...
“Why do they even let them speak”?
I have wondered about that ever since I was a kid-and I’ve never understood a contest that rewarded good looks and the ability to walk and pose properly-it is the AKC Westminster for humans...
A+++ it is far different here, you would never know there is a bad economy, in our area. and that is what is so scary.
You're in the DC area, right??? It should be obvious: the government has a lock on all of our money, and they distribute it to the favored few in the DC area, leaving the rest of us to starve.
um, was i appearing to indicate ignorance of the situation?
Not at all. I was just expanding on it.
