Miss Utah Falls Apart While Answering An Easy Question About Women Earning Less Than Men
Business Insider ^ | 06/17/2013 | Julia La Roche

Posted on 06/17/2013 9:09:27 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Miss Utah Marissa Powell, who looked stunning in a white strapless evening gown at the Miss USA pageant, bombed her final onstage question last night at the Planet Hollywood Casino & Resort in Las Vegas. "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star/Miss USA judge NeNe Leakes asked Powell, who was named the most photogenic at the pageant, to answer the following question:

"A recent report shows that in 40% of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?"

This is a great question, and something you'd expect a Miss USA candidate to be well-prepared for. It's part of a much larger discussion that has been going on for a long time now and it's a great opportunity for a Miss USA contestant to totally nail it.

Here's Miss Utah's incoherent response, though:

"I think that we can relate this back to education and how we are continuing to try to strive to...figure out how to create jobs right now, that is the greatest problem. I think especially the men are, um, seen as the leaders of this so we need to try to figure out how to create education better so we can solve this problem.

You can really see the heartbreak and disappointment in Powell's eyes in the video posted below. She clearly knew she messed it up.

The answer is easy - ‘when adjusted for all variables such as education, years in the profession, etc there is so little difference in salaries between men and women so as to be inconsequential. So what it says about America is we are about as non-discriminating and fair a society as there ever was.’

You can just tell that they are all trying to relate it back to education and more money for education and people need education and education is so important...

Rather than trying to use their brain and answer the question

It is a FALSE question too...

Correct answer: "It deomonstrats the devestating effects which accompany the breakdown of the American family."

Liberal-based/Agenda questioning.

Correctly phrased "Why do you think 40% of Women who are Head of Household Mothers are working today"?

Correct answers:

"Out of wedlock births/tramp action by young women, and the 75% out-of-wedlock Black births are a real problem in America that drains Taxpayer dollars to buy their votes. The working wives/mothers are FORCED to work to pay the over-whelming Taxes of a Welfare State. We need to get back to Values, where there is a Nuclear COMPLETE Father/Mother Family, which teaches Christian morality, and values, and that each of us is responsible for our OWN outcomes; not forcing us to fund those who CHOOSE not to work, or be responsible, or become PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY".

The classic!

Aimee Teegarden: “Recent polls have shown that a fifth of Americans can’t locate the US on a world map. Why do you think this is?”

Miss South Carolina Lauren Caitlin Upton:
“I personally believe, that U.S. Americans,
are unable to do so,
because uh,
some, people out there, in our nation don’t have maps.
and uh…
I believe that our education like such as in South Africa,
and the Iraq,
everywhere like such as…
and, I believe they should uh,
our education over here,
in the U.S. should help the U.S.
or should help South Africa,
and should help the Iraq and Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future,
for us.”

Host Mario Lopez “Thank you very much South Carolina.”

Beauty is only skin deep...

And in this case she missed a perfect opportunity to speak Utahnics. Hat tip to Wes Clark. http://wesclark.com/ubn/utahnics.html

As with Ebonics, people who speak Utahnics are genetically pre-disposed to do so. Therefore, I am convinced that we must allocate funds to teach Utahnics to non-natives. I have included a few Utahnics phrases below to illustrate the magnitude of the problem.

“djeet?” (”Did you eat?”)
“lawnmore” (lawn mower)
“leafblore” (leaf blower)
“cha” (You)
“ain’tcha?” (Aren’t you?)
“dcha?” (Did you?)
“djew?” (”Did you?”, Panguitch version)
“squeet” (”Let’s go eat)
“Lardy, Darthy, that’s a gargeous ahrange farmal!” (”Lordy, Dorothy, that’s a gorgeous orange formal!”)

Here is a typical Utahnics conversation:
LaVerl: “Djeet yet?”
LaVell: “No, djew?”
LaVar: “Squeet!”

Alas, sometimes context requires one address a question as having a valid basis, even though the framework for the reasoning is deeply flawed.

Poor girl was ambushed by a typical crap mouth liberal. The very premise is a lie, which is typical of the liberal mental functioning. I can understand why this stymied the girl. But really, aren’t we the people getting accustomed to being lied to? The current regime cannot go a day without issuing a page full of lies, fed through the enemy media vermin euphemistically known as ‘the mainstream media’.

“A recent report shows that in 40% of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?”

Correct answer: Depends on what cause you want to tackle: Women leaving the workforce to have children; Fatherless homes; equal pay for equal work.

The statistic is simply a number that reflects many different aspects of American culture. Some reasons for the number may be positive while others might be negative, but those reasons must be analyzed individually before it can be determined whether any government involvement would give a net positive result, or if there is, in fact any real problem reflected in the number.

Without further analysis it is a simple raw data point.

not to overanalyze, but I think I just figured out why.

In the sexual world:

Men are judged by their level of success - usually financial. this means that men of disproportionat “sexual advantage” tend to be segregated. The mail room is nowhere near the board room.

But women are judged on appearance and femininity - character, the way they look and move, etc. Women from both ends of the spectrum - and everything in between - often work in the same office together. This can result in friction betweeen those of child bearing age who are not married or not happy in their marriages.

Why does the writer assume this is an "easy" question? Is there one obviously "correct" answer? The "liberal" answer, of course, is that our patriarchal society still discriminates against women by paying them less than men for the same work.

The actual answer, however, is more complex. First of all, we have a high rate of divorce, with many single mothers running families. Also, as women enter the work force in large numbers, many will and do earn more than their husbands, even if the overall average earnings for women is lower. Secondly, many women pursue careers in fields with relatively low salary scales, i.e., the service sector of the economy. Thirdly, many women take time off for childbearing, which depresses their lifetime income.

On the other hand, there are now more women than men in college and more women than men earning advanced degrees. Most jobs do not discriminate between men and women when determining salary; there is a stated, advertized wage or salary regardless of who gets the position. So, in that sense, there is little discrimination between men and women in determining wages.

You could argue, I suppose, that some jobs pay low wages because they were historically held by women, at a time when women were not considered the primary breadwinner, and that the wages in these areas have not changed with the times. But that raises the question of whether there is an "objective" way of determining what the wages should be in a particular field. This is, of course, a matter of dispute.

Another interesting question is whether the mass entry of women into the post-1960s workforce was by necessity or by choice. At any rate, it represented a vast social change and the effects are still being worked out. One result of this change is likely to be a concentration of more of the best jobs into fewer families, as educated men tend to marry educated women, and when both work, both will presumably acquire well-paying jobs.

Another factor is illegal immigration, which arguably depresses wages in entry-level or service-sector jobs, precisely those areas where a higher percentage of women than men seek employment.

Oh, what was the question again?
