Is it Time for All Good Americans to go Low Tech Once Again?
Self | 06/17/13 | fwdude

Whether this latest scandal gets "resolved" or not, the cat is out of the bag - NONE of our private information is private. And with increasingly intricate and advanced technologies emerging, we can only expect the situation to get much, MUCH worse. They just won't tell us the next time, and simply "disappear" anyone who quits his classified government job.

I've always suspected that we would eventually have to again embrace low-tech methods of communication to combat government fascism such as we're now seeing. Notes in archaic or obscure languages, codes and other unsuspected methods are going to, out of necessity, come back into use by true, constitutional Americans. It will be inefficient, but will give us good practice for when the entire networked infrastructure completely collapses.

Or you could just encrypt your emails. All the “low tech” methods are subject to NSA interception too, they’ve been in existence since 1949, I’m pretty sure they still have the old manuals.

A carrier pigeon could carry a lot of info on a micro SD chip these days.

One can only imagine the effect if people just stopped using cell phones and email for an extended period. I think it would be awesome.

We must have had some of those signs in front of our house. In the 40’s we lived on a rural road (it's now the middle of Houston). We had frequent “saddle bums”(they rode horses) who stopped by because my mother would feed them.

We had chickens and ducks, mom would save the duck eggs for the bums and we ate the chicken eggs.

been doing that for years

I don’t even want my bank to know where I shop and go, much less any other snoopers.

But you know, the DHS has said that people who use cash are “potential terrorists” or to be automatically suspected of being up to something illegal.

When the Russians decided to dump the commies back in the ‘80s, they had so few rights, they had to resort to “Samizdat,” hand-written messages passed from hand to hand or nailed on trees and telephone poles. It was one of the major reasons the commies got dumped.

Ideas whose time has come do NOT need the INTERNET.

My friend the far-left guy (FLG) is with us on this , and so are people of every political persuasion. Uprisings R Us

Or just grab yourself an email ID like imamalimosque@aol.com

Since Obummer has ordered them not to spy on mosques, the NSA guys will steer a wide berth around you.

“That leaves HAM radio “

The NRO has satellites that can receive all HF/VHF/UHF ham radio traffic world wide. The NSA has the recording studios. :)

Does anyone else appreciate the irony of this suggestion that we go “smoke signal” being posted on an internet forum?

Except when creating Samizdat be aware that years ago the Gov arm-twisted printer manufacturers into hiding a microstamp in every page to tell them on what machine something had been printed.

Maybe grab an old mimeograph machine from a closed-down Catholic school or something.

“But you know, the DHS has said that people who use cash are “potential terrorists” or to be automatically suspected of being up to something illegal.”

Indeed, and the wife and I are already transitioning to just plain cash.

For no other reason than to tick off the govt dorks.

As for comms, someone come up with a good means of encasing msgs in pictures (some random collection of LSBs in the pic would work....albeit with the warning that that randomess heeds to change). Keep the picture flow going - overload them.

They already consider me a terrorist because of my limited government mindset so why should I give them any info on me period. And besides why do they need to know how many damn carrots I eat or how often I change the oil in my car. It is none of their damn business.

Use craigslist for the ham equipment and learn morse. When the NSA starts hiring 70-80 year olds to decode Morse, switch to PSK.

Why do that when two CW operators can really confuse and use simple code within the CW.
