Billionaires Want to End Capitalism As We Know It (Richard Branson's new non-profit)
NewsBusters ^ | June 17, 2013 | Mike Ciandella

Posted on 06/18/2013 4:33:09 PM PDT by Thoreauaway

Richard Branson, Arianna Huffington and a group of other CEOs and former world leaders have formed a group whose goal is to end capitalism as we know it. The nonprofit, known as “The B Team,” was created to help promote a “better version of capitalism, one that prioritizes people and planet over profit.” This ignores the fact that capitalism is, by definition, motivated by profit.

The team, led by Branson and German businessman Jochen Zeitz, calls for drastic changes in how the economy works. These include “new rules and models for the future of business – not incremental ‘change as usual.’”

It’s no surprise that a group including Arianna Huffington would be promoted by the Huffington Post, but CNBC Europe also interviewed Branson and Zeitz on June 13 and had only good things to say about their project. In the “Closing Bell” interview, Branson said that part of the motivation for businesses to follow the goals laid out by The B Team would come from being viewed better by their employees. Businesses should “not just think about this quarters profit but also think, you know, ‘what are we doing to try to tackle our environmental issues, how can we do it better,’” Branson said.

According to The B Team’s mission statement: “Plan A - where companies have been driven by the profit motive alone – is no longer acceptable.” According to Branson, the group will work with “government agencies, the social sector and business leaders” in order to achieve their goals. Branson and Zeitz launched the group on Oct. 3, 2012.

The group is also heavily influenced by The Elders, a group of former global leaders that focuses on world peace. This group includes former U.S. president Jimmy Carter, and former Secretary-General of the UN Kofi Annan.

They have no interest in economic freedom. Hell, some shopkeeper in Singapore might rise up to challenge the ruling class. Best to wipe them out so the third world doesn’t develop and harm the environment.

Yes, and a lot of them have gained advantage by manipulating the tax code. At our expense, of course.

I think of the smoking ban in Michigan bars. The casinos lobbied for the law but made sure there was a loophole to exempt themselves.

In a free market world, no such law could have even been considered. There was no law against smoke free bars and restaurants so they should have been sprouting up all over the place without a law.

Ayn Rand’s prescription left much to be desired, but her diagnose was spot on.

all of these people should let the government confiscate their earning under the old, terrible form of capitalism they proered in, so they can start on equal ground with everyone else in their new form of better capitalism.

they like it when government takes money from people, they must love it when governmnent can take most of theirs.

So Many of the health and safety regulation are prompted by isolated instances but have, as their real purpose, pricing potential competitors out of the market. Chain restaurants are winning against Mom & Pop because they Mom can’t afford to compete. If she struggles ahead, they’ll buy her out and put a franchisee in her place.

We have ours, now we wish to institutionalize the relationship so we no longer have to defend it.

Anti-Capitalist Capitalists. Every day, the world is a little more like an Ayn Rand novel.

These poofter elites have far too much time and money on their hands.

What a ridiculous concept. Matter of fact, I think it’s been tried. They called it Socialism, didn’t they?

Sounds remarkably like the meetings in Atlas Shrugged featuring James Taggart, Owen Boyle, and Wesley Mouch.

They convinced themselves that they were doing everything out of their altruism.

First you build your tree house, then you haul up the ladder so none of the other kids can play.

Some folks would call that selfish.

And then to justify it by saying that, “Hey, tree houses damage trees,” is just plain old, ordinary, garden variety hypocrisy of the most blatant variety.

Or, in a more colloquial vein, these people are full of sh*t.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
C. S. Lewis

Okay, I get it.

Your bored and want to make a new game.

Sorry but, the game works because life setup rules with predictable outcomes.

What you are promoting is the same stuff the Nazis, The Ford Foundation and others already tried.

It met an epic fail.
