Meet the Boy Scout with all 134 merit badges
WIS TV ^ | Jun 18, 2013 | Taylor Kearns

Posted on 06/18/2013 7:56:23 PM PDT by Jet Jaguar

WINNSBORO, SC (WIS) - Logan Robinson is going to need a bigger sash. He's come a long way in 10 years. Back then he was just a 7-year-old Cub Scout who enjoyed carving polar bears out of bars of soap.

"For a 7-year old to have a knife and be carving something, it was awesome," said Robinson. "I was hooked right away."

Robinson achieved his Eagle Scout rank by the age of 13. Most scouts quit when they hit Eagle. Robinson was just getting started.

"If I didn't have something to focus on, I was just going to fizzle out," said Robinson.

So Troop 49 scoutmaster Jimmie Joyner gave Robinson a challenge: earn every single badge available -- all 134.

"I've heard there have only been about 180-200 boys who've earned every badge out of the millions of scouts," said Joyner.

Robinson had many weekends spent at scouting camps earning a few badges at a time, but he got there. Everything from dentistry to tracking and bugling, which was a pain.

"You have to learn I believe it's 13 different bugle calls, and I had absolutely no musical experience," said Robinson.

Those experiences that made the 2 1/2-year journey worth it.

"I mean I've gotten to see F-35's being built in person," said Robinson, "who gets to do that?"

He hopes many more will. Part of the fun is showing off the sash to younger scouts and hopefully inspire them.

Just don't ask for too much detail about the nuclear science patch.

"I remember doing it," said Robinson. "Every little aspect of it? Ehh."

What difference does it matter at this point in time, anyway???

Congrats to him. He did it before the complete corruption of the organization has occurred.

I'll give him a Marietta Bump for that mention of the F-35.

Hope they don't create an alternative orientation badge in light of recent developments.

Thank you. The fine young men of the Boy Scouts deserve our support and encouragement. They don’t deserve what they’ve been subjected to.

I don’t accept that a kid earned, by himself, the rank of Eagle by 13. This “early” earning Eagle stuff is just as false as the Boy Scouts now claiming to Reverent to God and “morally straight”.

Lucky for him he wasn't carving guns or tea party symbols out of those bars of soap. For then he'd be investigated by the NSA, or the IRS, or by both.

There is no statute of limitation for those crimes.

In the old days, he’d get promoted to E-2 or E-3 instantly when he joined the service, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone these days, especially a hard-charger like this kid.

Possessing a small carving knife would get you expelled in most school districts today. Sad, but true.

Congratulations to this young man and I hope he ultimately get’s the happy life badge.

Although I don’t know what it takes to be an Eagle Scout, it’s not out of the realm of possibility when you consider how much time urban kids have. How badges could a kid earn during school breaks and summers?

My son legitimately made Eagle at 13 - he was focused and worked very hard - there were no hand outs or parental participation.

Considering how much of an overachiever he is he’ll either rise through the ranks of the military pretty fast or he’ll be successful in business.

I am a scout leader and we have two very focused kids.
Yes with parent support and encouragement each has earned 25 merit badges by the time they turned 13.
I worked with them on the Personal Management badge and they came in well prepared and met all the requirements.

Also, various organizations including some colleges have
set up merit badge colleges so a scout can earn a merit badge or two in a weekend.

Found this...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Scout_%28Boy_Scouts_of_America%29

Requirements

Eagle Scout may be earned by a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout who has been a Life Scout for at least six months, earns a minimum of 21 merit badges, demonstrates Scout Spirit, and demonstrates leadership in the troop, team, crew or ship. He must plan, develop, and lead a service project— the Eagle Project —that demonstrates both leadership and a commitment to duty. He must then take part in a Scoutmaster conference. After all requirements are met, he must complete an Eagle Scout board of review. He can complete the board of review after his 18th birthday as long as all other requirements are completed before his 18th birthday.[12]

Venturers and Sea Scouts who attained First Class as a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout in a troop or team may continue working toward the Star, Life and Eagle Scout ranks, as well as Eagle Palms, while registered as a Venturer or Sea Scout up to their 18th birthday. Scouts with a permanent mental or physical disability may use alternate requirements based on abilities, if approved by the council. Eagle Scout may be awarded posthumously, if and only if all requirements except the board of review are completed before death. A board of review may be held and the award presented to the Scout’s family. The Spirit of the Eagle Award is an honorary posthumous special recognition for any registered youth member who has died in an accident or through illness.

Of the 21 merit badges, 12 are required; these include:

First Aid
Citizenship in the Community
Citizenship in the Nation
Citizenship in the World
Communications
Personal Fitness
Environmental Science
Personal Management
Camping
Family Life
Emergency Preparedness or Lifesaving
Swimming or Hiking or Cycling.

Sustainability merit badge will be introduced at the 2013 National Scout Jamboree as an alternative to Environmental Science merit badge. Cooking merit badge will be revised and required as of January 1, 2014, bringing the total required to 13.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Scout_%28Boy_Scouts_of_America%29

Eagle Scouts are expected to set an example for other Scouts and to become the leaders in life that they have demonstrated themselves to be in Scouting. As such, they are disproportionately represented in the military, service academy graduates, in higher education and academia, major professions, the clergy, business and politics.[37][38]

Eagle Scouts who enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces may receive advanced rank in recognition of their achievements.[39][40][41]

Adult Scouters who earned Eagle Scout as a youth may wear a square knot emblem with a red, white, and blue striped square knot above the left shirt pocket; the medal may be worn on formal occasions.[25] Eagle Scouts may join the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA), which serves as a fellowship and communications board for all Eagle Scouts.

NESA directly administers several Eagle Scout scholarships.[42] The American Legion,[43] the National Jewish Committee on Scouting,[44] and the Sons of the American Revolution[45] offer scholarships directed toward Eagle Scouts. Many colleges and universities, local businesses, churches and other organizations may offer similar scholarships.

The NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award recognizes Eagle Scouts who have demonstrated outstanding achievement at the local, state, or regional level.

The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award is given only to Eagle Scouts for distinguished service in their profession and the community for a period of at least 25 years after earning Eagle Scout.
