Cat nurses orphaned pit bull puppy in Ohio

CLEVELAND — A cat caring for four newborn kittens is nursing an orphaned week-old pit bull puppy in Cleveland.

Sharon Harvey of the Cleveland Animal Protective League said Wednesday that Lurlene the cat welcomed Noland the puppy to her "unusual little family." The puppy was dropped off at the animal shelter last week when he was a day old.

It amazes me how strong the maternal instinct is in certain animals, that they often they will nurse any orphan animal they find. Mutual of Omaha even had a special of a lioness who was kicked out of her pride and would take in orphan gazelles. Reminds me of the Bible Verse of the lion lying with the lamb.

That cat will never be bothered by other cats or dogs as long as she keeps her adopted son/daughter nearby! She’s nursing her own personal bodyguard.

I had a dog who would steal kittens, lick them all over to get rid of the cat smell, and try to nurse them. It was so sad. She was never able to have puppies.

We'd pick up the kittens and carry them back to their mother.

Martin - that particular news agency has people writing for them who, I swear, do not have good writing skills or, which is more likely, have English as a second language.

I linked to another article by them, one about “fluffy cows”. And they had a picture of a bovine calf which they described as “a male cow”. Ha! No bull! I kid you not!
