Thats it. I dont want to live on this planet anymore. In a radical shakeup of their 103-year old oath, the Brownies and Girl Guides are dropping their pledge to love my God and to serve their country. This sounds like a small thing but its actually a milestone in British social history. Weve reached the point when religion and patriotism are too conservative even for the organisation set up by the Baden-Powells the brother and sister who thought Jesus and whittling were the hallmarks of civilisation. Now that the last vestiges of cultural conservatism are gone from Britain, the Guides can embrace a happy secularist future free from anachronism. The little munchkins can go on nature rambles to learn all about the importance of conserving the Liberal Democrats. Critics will chide me for unleashing my inner-Peter Hitchens over something so petty, but the semantics of the issue are very revealing. The pledge to serve the country has been replaced by a pledge to serve the community. Thats right: these tykes are effectively promising to do community service. What can we infer from this? That Britishness has become so complicated, so messy, so torn apart by self-loathing that its now impossible to ask children to identify themselves with the nation state...

Coming soon to the Girl Scouts as well! I have a very close friend who’s been a Girl Scout since she was 8 and is now a scoutmaster (or whatever they’re called in the Girl Scouts). She’s told me that the din is growing louder to make these same changes here in the States.
I’m sorry, but if this happens in the same way it happened with the Boy Scouts, I’ll stop buying Girl Scout cookies and anything associated with them.
These are SERVICE organizations, and we’re sexualizing them by making homosexuality a centerpiece and removing God and country from their respective creeds. This is disgusting. These are children. Is there NOTHING sacred anymore?
And here is the Lincoln bedroom ... and we decided to leave it just the way it was.
That’s what they call their scouts in UK.
So GS till say something about God?
I know they long since abandoned offending the homos.
Oh .. I’m getting too lazy these days about my reading
They’ll fit right alongside the Young Lesbians and the Transgendered Boys
I believe the Girl Scouts already have awhile back.....
Don’t buy the cookies!!!
Actually, it would be more appropriate to say the Girl Scouts are what we call our Girl Guides in the U.S. Both the Girl Guides and the Girl Scouts were based on Scouting. The Girl Guides were founded first (and by Lord Robert Baden Powell's sister, Agnes, as well).
Scouting became co-ed in the United Kingdom in the early 2000's, so young ladies can be Scouts or Girl Guides, just as young ladies 14-20 can be Venturing Scouts or Girl Scouts in the U.S.
Not exactly. The Girl Scout Promise is:
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
Girl Scouts are permitted to substitute words such as 'faith', 'Creator', 'my beliefs', 'Allah', 'religion' or similar words for 'God'.
I was a Girl Guide in Missouri over 55 years ago. They were sponsored by the Salvation Army. I went to camp and earned badges just like the girl scouts. They were always the sweetest people. One badge I earned required reciting the books of the bible. This is sad news.
