Back in the day, two friends and I used to spend the night at one another's house, and make prank calls at 4 in the morning. We looked in the phone book and found a lady named Mrs Long Short. Perfect target.......so we thought.
We called and were surprised that she answered the phone immediately, and was already awake. We began asking silly questions, and within a few minutes the lady was so nice that we realized she was a lonely widow and was enjoying the conversation.
Over a period of months, we called her on occasion, just to chat - always at 4 in the morning. She never asked who we were, and never failed to engage us in interesting conversation. And that is the long and short of it.
Hadn't thought about that in years. (And we never prank called people again)

Robert Reich is campaigning for Obama down in Texas, and buys himself a pair of expensive cowboy boots to try to fit in. After a few days, of campaigning, for some inexplicable reason, he has developed such bad scrotal pain that he has to see a doctor.
As he explains the pain to the doctor, and describes how it seemed to start when he came to Texas, the doctor calmly says “I am going to fix that for you right now” leaves the room and returns with a large pair of scissors.
Reich jumps up and runs to the door yelling “You’re not cutting MY balls off!”
The doctor calls after him “Wait! I was just going to cut the tops off of your cowboy boots!”
