Celebrity chef Paula Deen was today sacked from her job at the Food Network despite begging the public for forgiveness over her past use of racial slurs in a heavily-edited video apology.

A Food Network spokesman issued this statement today: 'Food Network will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month.' It came just hours after she released the 45-second video in which she says: 'I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong I have done. I want to learn and grow from this.

'Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable. I have made plenty of mistakes along the way but I beg you, my children, my fans, my team, my partners, I beg for your forgiveness. 'Please forgive me for the mistakes that I've made.'

The 66-year-old was due to appear on the Today show this morning to to answer questions from Matt Lauer about the racial slurs - but she pulled out just before the show started. Later that day she announced on her Twitter page that she would be releasing a video statement soon. After the initial video was released another, longer one was then posted on YouTube and was taken down soon after.

and p.s. - never would I have paid a penny to dine in that tourist trap had I known her politics. Very smart, Paula, for keeping it quiet.

The only unforgivable “crime” in this country is being a racist.

Incorrect. Being racist CAN be forgiven if you advance the Left's agenda sufficiently. Paula did not, so she was expendable as a lesson to the rest.

Meanwhile, Bill Clinton could use the word as much as he wanted without consequence

Larry Patterson confirmed that he frequently heard Bill Clinton use “n****r” to refer to both Jesse Jackson and local Little Rock black leader Robert “Say” McIntosh. Longtime Clinton paramour Dolly Kyle Browning corroborated Patterson on Clinton’s use of “n****r.” “Not only did he use the ‘N’ word, he called him a ‘GDN’ [goddamn n****r], if you catch my drift,” Browning told Fox News in 1999. [NewsMax, 17 July 2000] Brown also told NewsMax that the president would regularly make derogatory comments about African-Americans in private. “He has used the ‘N’ word before. Bill would make snide remarks about blacks behind their backs.” [Carl Limbacher and NewsMax Staff, 17 July 2000]

Are you saying that people in the South aren’t normal?

LOL by all means no, seeing as I'm from South Carolina and I consider myself really normal. Was just trying to put the mores in the right perspective.

I hate the n word and would never even use it in a joke, BUT

Why hate, it's just a word and the word is nigger.

Brothas and sistas call each other nigga all day long and it's not hateful.

It only becomes hateful if a white person uses it? How insane is that?

“The only unforgivable “crime” in this country is being a racist.”

Unless it is being a black racist then it is superior to non-racists.

Yep...they're being niggardly in who they apply blame to.

After she campaigned for Obama, I could care less about what happens to her. Live by the Dems, die by the Dems.

Who is talking about Virginia? That story is from Connecticut.

The first slave (as opposed to indentured servant who would work for a period until repaying their passage and gaining their freedom) was John Casor.

It was a Northhampton county court that ruled John Casor could be held in servitude "for the duration of his life". He was the first slave, and he in fact owned by a black man (Anthony Johnson, formerly an indentured servant himself). Because he was black the court decided he didn't have the rights of an English subject under common law. It was the beginning of black slavery in the U.S. The Virginia legislature codified slavery not long after.

I remember after the Tiger Woods incident I had gone to Toys R’ Us for lunch, went back to work and told everyone I noticed anything to do with him was on the clearance shelf.

I have had many friends of different color, religion, etc., and we could tell jokes about each other without being offended. I guess the difference is none of us were actually bigoted, and none of us had any monetary incentive to file a complaint.

Paula loves Jimmy Carter. Many from Albany, GA (her hometown) loved him because he was from Georgia but I understand she is a devout liberal.

The media won’t admit she is a Dem..they say she is from the South, implying that she is a Republican

Then if she’s consistent in her liberalism she should be very happy with what is happening to her now.

I believe you meant de-segregation.

I remember that time (I was raised in the once-great Commonwealth of MA before escaping to NH). Judge Garrity, over-ruled the constitutional right of Freedom of Association (sending your child to school in a neighborhood you chose to live in) and forced busing. I guess liberals never understood the “one bad apple” concept. They seem to subscribe to the idea that bad students would be lifted up by putting them in good schools, despite the repeated, irrefutable evidence that the good students are pulled down instead. Those liberals who decry “White flight” need look no further than our “benignly” despotic government seeking to create their racial Utopia over the bodies of innocent students.

My rant is a little off-topic to the thread, but although I blame MA and Boston for a lot, I think the impacted residents who rightly complained deserve to be cut some slack on this issue.
