Celebrity chef Paula Deen was today sacked from her job at the Food Network despite begging the public for forgiveness over her past use of racial slurs in a heavily-edited video apology.
A Food Network spokesman issued this statement today: 'Food Network will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month.' It came just hours after she released the 45-second video in which she says: 'I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong I have done. I want to learn and grow from this.
'Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable. I have made plenty of mistakes along the way but I beg you, my children, my fans, my team, my partners, I beg for your forgiveness. 'Please forgive me for the mistakes that I've made.'
The 66-year-old was due to appear on the Today show this morning to to answer questions from Matt Lauer about the racial slurs - but she pulled out just before the show started. Later that day she announced on her Twitter page that she would be releasing a video statement soon. After the initial video was released another, longer one was then posted on YouTube and was taken down soon after.

She has a big line of FURNITURE also!!!! Wonder what’s going to happen with that??
I hate the n word and would never even use it in a joke,
I’ve used it in jokes. And other ethnic slurs, too. Big deal.
Blacks are the biggest n-—— users.
She’s a HUGE DEMOCRAT!!
Again the hammer of political correctness kills. Someone that said the N-word 30 years ago.....Yet the same people who point and condemn are the same people that uses the word in their music videos, music and daily life.
Yea, tell me again about the freedom speech thing again.
I guess if you’re white, that doesn’t matter. I don’t care much for Paula Deen but she did not deserve what they’ll going to do to her.
The lynching comes next.
The idea behind racist jokes, many are hilarious, is not being offended when it is your race, gender, religion, political party, profession, etc. You can make a good funny, a legitimate funny not a hateful one, about anything I represent and I will not only laugh but probably repeat it. Free speech means not being thin skinned and “offended” by personal insecurities. I think we have forgotten what free speech is about, not to mention how to laugh.
She should have settled that lawsuit or allowed the case to to to a default judgment.
Clinton should have defaulted on the Paula Jones lawsuit and Paula Dean should have defaulted on this one.
There are times when it is a lot cheaper to just ignore a lawsuit and let a default judgment go in than to try to fight it. Especially when everything the plaintiff says you did do or say, you did do or say.
Her sons still have shows with the network.
I think it’s a disgrace. She practically made the Food Network. The real problem is that FN is feeling the heat from the nannies who do not like her high-fat food and her obvious delight in southern cuisine. This stinks of political correctness on two levels.
“I hate the n word and would never even use it in a joke,”
Well, plenty of n’s use it, in conversation and literature and especially in music, and I think it is beyond ridiculous that other races can’t.
Pretty soon it will be apparent that it isn’t enough to be a liberal Democrat . . . if you are white.
She can cook for me anytime she wants.
The only time see the food network is when I’m seeing a doctor. So the less I see of her or them the better...
She’s being pilloried for words that were commonly spoken at the time, that being 40 years ago, in the 60’s. This is a lets bring down a popular idol (amongst foodies), because its fun to bring down someone who has worked their *ss off for years and has reached the pinnacle of their success. Time to destroy that nasty capitalist that has made it through hard work.
The Food Network can go take a jump in the lake IMO, and I will personally not watch them in the future. They are perfectly within their rights to remove Paula Deen from their program network, and I am perfectly within my rights to not watch them as my own personal statement. Hope others will do the same, and/or write, e-mail, or phone them to voice displeasure.
The only time (I) see the food network is when Im seeing a doctor. So the less I see of her or them the better...
So is the moral of the story “Never apologize—they’re going to fire you anyway”?
She was poisoning the food. If you look closely you see her pour stuff in.... (/s)
Ah, Oh! someone's going to get audited!
I have nothing against the South but I do insist on being truthful. Jim Crow laws began in the South, pushed by Democrats after the Compromise of 1877.
