I’m Cherokee / German..........ever time I get drunk...I try to scalp myself
“Celebrities, keep your opinions to yourself and do what you do best, sing, act, cook, whatever.”
Agreed. At one time, most celebrities generally understood that and it made sense. We don’t come to them for our politics any more than we go to buy gasoline from a Chinese restaurant.
Apparently, "they" must be scared of a backlash on the merchandising front.
“(She)grew up in a segregated era in the south and Im sure they feel totally different than the normal person.”
Say, what? People who grew up in the South are not normal people? I find youre comment incredibly offensive.
LOL I am such a mongrel. My dad was 7/8 Cherokee and 1/8 German, my mom was at least 1/4 Jewish and the rest English, and the rest Irish and maybe Scottish.
Lincoln, himself, petitioned Illinois not to allow freed blacks into Illinois. He also supported laws that forbid marriage between blacks and whites. Lincoln was always against slavery but never supported blacks as equals. He was not an abolitionist that supported the freeing of all slaves as equals.
“I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races; I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people.
I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”
There is an old video of Elvis Presley doing a press conference. Some reporter asked him what he thought about the Vietnam war. He replied, “Honey, I’m just an entertainer, I’d rather keep my opinions about that to myself.”
“Unless it is being a black racist then it is superior to non-racists.
Yep...they’re being niggardly in who they apply blame to.”
that’ll set their lurking hairs on fire!
This restaurant has a cook book for sale, probably buy online or call them and ask about purchasing.
Best cook book from IMO best southern cuisine cooking.
If not that one, then Pirate House in Savannah has an excellent cook book. Those two are my most used.
The only recipe I can’t get (it’s their very unique specialty) is the “Low Country Egg Rolls” which is egg rolls just like in chinese restaurants, except it’s filled with seasoned collard greens and pull pork. I’m drooling just thinking about them.
Whites have become pathetic caricatures.
Your Dad clearly was not a Marine. EVERY WWII Marine vet I knew, who fought in the Pacific, said “Jap,” and they probably continued to say it up until they died in old age.
Perhaps you are unaware of the profound hatred the Marines and Japanese had for each other. It was visceral.
Perhaps you are unaware of the profound hatred the Marines and Japanese had for each other. It was visceral.
I have a World War II Marine uncle. He still hates the Japs. I attend Marine Corps League events with him.
I’m very aware and you don’t need to tell me, thank you.
You should never try to apologize to people who try to guilt you. Back around 1978 I ‘d purchased Pontiac Grand Prix and went to visit some relatives. One of them tried the guilt trick by saying, “wasn’t that extravagant?” I replied, “No, I earned the money, I could afford it, I wanted it, and I bought it.” Never heard and more of that BS.
You’d be surprised at how many people DON’T know about the USMC v. Japanese. In your case, that is why I said “Perhaps,” as I had no knowledge of your background.
I knew WWII Marine vets who would never even buy anything that was made in Japan: No Japanese cars, no Japanese electronics, etc., even though they were excellent products.
If you look at the root of the word Niger means black. Nigeria is the land of the black. And the word we are not allowed to say simply mean not pure black. In theater the light gel bastard yellow simply is not pure yellow. There are many words with multiple meanings. Words change and so do their acceptance
There are hundreds of Southern Living cookbooks. However there are many different regions in the South and the food is quite diverse.
Meanwhile, Black Ghetto Thug Trayvon Martin is celebrated even though he called himself No Limit Ni—a on Twitter
Deen apoligized for her past remarks. Yet the Black Ku Klux Klan and their White Guilt Liberal succophants had to lynch another Whitey
Wake up people!
I understand. Thank you.
Growing up, our Post Master was a Bataan Death March survivor. He was missing two fingers on each hand. He and other American wood cutters had intentionally cut the wood a little long so it wouldn’t fit in the Japanese wood stoves. When they figured out what they’d done, the Japs held their hands down on tree stumps and cut off their fingers with axes.
Not too many people her age could truthfully say they never used that word, it was fairly common when I was growing up. Where I lived there were no blacks, but as she said jokes were about the different ethnic groups and in the jokes the groups were all called by their slang (racist now) names. I can’t imagine that she was still doing that with the climate these days, I don’t know anyone else that is still doing that. The blond jokes took over for the ethnic jokes many years ago. Clueless of her if nothing else.
Good for Elvis. Another reason he was so beloved.
Second that....I highly recommend Southern Living cookbooks. I get the magazine. This month’s recipes include peach pound cake, pimiento cheese, squash casserole, and banana pudding, among dozens.
PC strikes again. Of course it’s ok to denigrate those bitter clingers to guns and religion, and any Tea Party types.
The term teabagger is just as objectionable to me as the N word, and all those smirking liberals that used it deserve to be fired, but that will never happen.
Yeah! Somebody oughta send Elvis' quote to Glenn Beck, lately a frequent virtual visitor to these pages.
My Dad had been on General MacArthurs staff and after the Japanese surrender, and as the Occupation got under way, orders were issued not to use Jap and show respect to the Japanese people.
There was a purpose for that order.
On the other hand, General Macarthur was ruthless toward the Japs who committed atrocities. Some Jap Generals had what amounted to Kangaroo courts and were hung immediately.
You must have some amazing stories about the general. MacArthur is one of the greatest gnerals in American history IMO.
Wasn’t it Paula who said (about Moochelle My Belle) “that girl could really eat! She ate more than any other guest on my show”?
I used to know a US Army veteran who survived the Bataan Death March and 3 years as a POW. (He's still alive at 94 but he is now in a nursing home with dementia.) He eventually bought a Japanese car. People who had known him for a long time thought that was the real end of World War II.
I heard some stories but was too young to appreciate them. I’d sure ask questions if my Dad was still alive now. LOL
Didn’t Paula Deen say something about Michelle eating a lot when on her show? Retribution and revenge maybe for her comments.
New York passed a law in 1948 banning racial discrimination in hiring--more than 80 years after the Civil War.
Major League Baseball had its first black player in 1947--when nearly all of the teams were in Northern cities (all except the Washington Senators and arguably the two St. Louis teams). Why had the teams not been integrated all along? The sport was invented by Yankees.
In the era of passenger trains, the black employees were sleeping car porters and maids, not engineers or conductors. It wasn't that none of the black employees would have liked to be an engineer or a conductor.
Alexis de Tocqueville, traveling in the US in the 1830s, thought that racial prejudice was stronger in the regions of the country where slavery had been abolished.
Deen laughed that Michelle wouldn't stop eating the delicious friend food.
Michelle. Does. Not. Forgive.
Took more than a year, but all the imps and demons of Hollywood and Media Matters finally got Michelle's Revenge.
I moved from the north to the south 25 years ago. The worst racists I knew were those that moved from the north at the same time (a bunch of us moved to start a new factory). Now the worst racists are generally black liberals who hate whitey while taking all they can from him.
Country cookin' makes me good lookin'.
I just had to get that in this thread.
Your father had the right attitude and he’d earned it. God Bless our Dads and all they served with.....all 16.5 million of them.
The home is not the province of the housewife, but of homosexual men.
They are also too "tournament." Too many cooking "star" shows, too many shopping for homes in Brussels.
Yep! You nailed it. This is something that should be addressed and a reason to be fired over.
Like my great-aunts, Democrats because Abraham Lincoln wasn't.
My wife’s grandmother (she dies recently at 92) was still using “colored” and according to her and her mother, grandma never said the n——— word because it was distasteful and only white trash used it.
She never had a bad word for anyone, it was part of her charm.
I saw that just the other day..I was appalled! LOL!
What a great memory for you! :-)
Yes, there has to be a reason. Paula Deen is a lib. When do libs attack another lib?
Well, when said lib reveals the gluttony of the First Lady, that’s when.
I give ms. Deen credit for her honesty.
Not the mooch herself, but her supporters. Lets not forget how this works.
$hit rolls downhill, and libs do not need marching orders.
If the “n” word were as bad a folks make it out to be, I wouldn’t hear it blaring out of cars as “music” every day.
The “n” word is just a word. And why do we say “n” word? Are we trained not to say.......yep, I ain’t saying it. I’d hate to be banned on FR for freedom of speech.
And now of course Deen’s vocal support of Obama goes down the memory hole. The culture will now instruct us that Paula Deen has always been a Republican. People will officially remember how Paula had Sarah Palin on her show. Michelle Obama of course never appeared in Deen’s show. Bill Maher and Media Matters will tell us so.
The Food Network Channel has been scratched from anything we will ever watch again. God bless Paula.
