They’re not going to get “papers” on something from the 1800s. We didn’t get all in a wad about things like that then.

However, it would be nice to give someone a proper burial, but that is probably beyond reach now.

A used coffin? Well, OK, if I can get a good deal.

True story. My father in law passed 10 years ago. The funeral director was trying to upsell us on a more expensive casket. He was listing all the fine qualities. We kept saying no.

Finally he said “But this casket comes with a Lifetime Guarantee!”

Man, did I have a blast with that one!

“Whose lifetime, pal? As you can see Mr. T**** is already dead. Past his expiration date. And as for me - I don’t plan on digging him up in 20 years - just to verify the casket is still in one piece.”

I would have gone on and on, but my wife was not appreciative of my dark humor.

A medical skeleton or a biology classroom one, no doubt originated from a body donated to science as specified in somebody’s will.

No skeletons in that closet. The coffin/skeleton and their purpose have been known for many years. Sounds like the police had nothing better to do.

Back in the 1800s there weren’t many willing their bodies to science. Many were stolen from graveyards.

But it is likely ancient history so there won’t be much to be found, especially if it was stolen much more than a century ago.
