Burglary Suspect Caught After Leaving Fingerprints on 7-Up Can, Sarasota Detectives Say
Bradenton Herald ^ | June 24, 2013 | James Santo

A 27-year-old has been arrested in two area crimes thanks to fingerprints he left behind on a 7-Up can in the most recent case, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reported.

James Hunter Santo, who last lived in North Port, is charged with cccupied burglary, dealing in stolen property and providing false information to a pawn broker.

Early last Tuesday, someone broke into the home of a 91-year-old woman on Lord Street in Englewood, the report stated. Detectives said they discovered the suspect left a soda can on the workbench in the victim’s garage before using a chisel to pry open the door to the home and steal items from the living room, kitchen and bedroom as the victim slept.

The next day, latent print technicians identified two fingerprints as belonging to Santo. Detectives then found that Santo had pawned several pieces of the victim’s stolen jewelry including her wedding ring, which she kept in a jewelry box on her dresser, the report stated.

Detectives arrested Santo Friday. They already had an arrest warrant for Santo accusing him of stealing checks from an 82-year-old man earlier this year, so he is also charged with two counts of forgery and one count of criminal use of personal identification.

Don’t be pessimistic. Maybe while incarcerated he can learn new skills, and move up to more remunerative crimes.

Why do we always have to tell the criminals what they did wrong? In this case not wearing gloves.

Having lived in the area...I find it odd that Sarasota detectives are working a case in Englewood....if memory serves me correctly...Englewood is in a different county...
